Reposed B-wings in Tournaments?

By Duty Remains, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I started this thread only because I paid $40 dollars to participate in Worlds and as such I felt it would be prudent to protect that investment by being thoroughly prepared.

There's a saying: "The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask" so I asked rather than taking the risk of regretting that I hadn't 3 weeks from now.

Oh, certainly - it's perfectly good to ask, and I encourage it :)

But the two pages of "Anyone who'd do that is a jerk!" and "I'd never play with HIM again" feels a bit excessive for what is essentially a made-up villain.

The only reason I'd see this as being a special case, is because it's at the FFG event center hosted by FFG. I could see some justification for FFG not wanting people to play with altered models. Not saying they would, just I could see the company itself not wanting modified models that look better then what they themselves make.

Obviously it is best to check directly with FFG as you are doing, but I saw a number of technically "illegal" models in play at the event center last year at Worlds and earlier this year at Regionals. One was a modded YT-1300, and another was a TIE Fighter missing a wing. The staff had a common sense approach to this issue and did not have a problem with them. I would guess they reserve that rule for someone deliberately trying to abuse the system (like a TIE with one fighter and one interceptor wing).

Or a micro machine A-wing stuck onto a post and base.

For me I was considering taking part in a local tournament with a three b wing list, all converted.

Its just common sense to check the store is cool with them first and i will do if i enter. I'd be amazed if anyone actually had a problem with a b wing at 30 degree angle though.

I think this rule is mostly to protect the IP. It's X-wing Miniatures, not FFG Miniatures.

That being said, I'm certain that your B-wings will be fine. If they aren't, find me and borrow some of mine.

Its exactly this ^

An issue I can see to the orientation of the model, is your opponent thinking your model is facing a different direction than the base... I think thats more of an issue with an X-Wing sitting on a ball magnet, than a tilted B-Wing tho... but in a high stress environment an opponent can easily slip and focus on your model rather than the base.
