Initial thoughts on Rebel Aces: A-Wings are Awesome

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

I noticed you put two talents on Gemmer. How? He doesn't have an Elite slot to start with and only gains one with Test Pilot.

While Gemmer had too many EPTs, your premise does not lie. A-Wings are insanely fun after Aces. Not sure about competitiveness, but double EPTs are amazing.

Yeah, I think the TC assumed that Gemmer already had an EPT.

Love the "Graven Dreis Act of 2012".

GIF at the end of the article is a fun addition.

Unless I'm Mistaken, doesn't A-Wing Test Pilot let Gemmer take EPTs? Oh wait. That means He'd just get one. People who already had one would get two.

OOPS.

All I know is, with the new FAQ, U-turn Tycho with Experimental Interface is about to hit LUDICRUS SPEED!!!!

My thoughts go as follows: "aww man I really wish my rebel aces would turn up"

where you say you noticed something neat on farlander & kyle, its just paying more points for the exact same effect as his pilot ability, It would certainly be very useful on another B-Wing but for Farlander its just the same effect as he can manage himself by spending stress as focus during an attack. I think Kyle Katarn is a lot of points to focus up a single evade dice, C3PO does It better for the same cost.

Good write up though. Gemmer probably isn't for me, I NEVER trust the dice XD especially the green ones, they like to troll you far too much! XD

I'm pretty damned sure that there is not a single part/pilot/upgrade that I don't like. Everything about Rebel aces is just plain awesome!

You haven't seen speed till you've gone plaid.

What camera did you use? I'm looking for a phone with a decent camera. My blackberry just isn't up to snuff.

gemmer and jake are awesome. gemmer has gone toe to toe with a 6 tie howl swarm and echo in the same turn and come out unscathed, while jake has outmaneuvered echo and soontir in the same turn.

unbelievable.

...Dear God. Never thought of that.

This one was not on my radar screen. Now, not so sure. A-wing look Sooooooo cool. :)

Can someone more experienced than I tell we why anyone would use the enhanced scopes upgrade? Don't see it.

For blocking or as a cheap, pseudo-alternative to advanced sensors. Honestly I don't see why you'd use it on anything other than a shuttle.

Right. I noticed that I would be neat on any B-Wing other than Farlander. ;)

I have a Nokia Lumia 1020. The one with the huge honkin' 41 mega pixel camera. It's great for taking pictures of games. :D

I can see it having some uses on Nera if you also use Deadeye. You move first so that you are not bumped and still get an action. You focus and can then use your 360 degree Torpedoes and your opponent has to go through fits trying to get out of arc.. Yeah you can get to the same place using Advanced Sensors, but AS costs 2 more and for that cost you can add a Flechette Torp on Nera.

Its a strange upgrade, there is almost no need to put it on a PS 1 or 2 ship since you will be moving first most of the time and if you are putting it on a PS 3/4 ship, you have to ask the question, "Why don't I use a PS 2 ship and put advanced sensors/FCS on it instead?" So that leaves High PS pilots that don't rely on getting target locks. To make it worse, moving last is becoming more of an advantage these days and paying an additional point to lose half the benefit of what you paid for for high pilot skill is a dubious use of squad points. So very high skill pilots its not a good idea most of the time either.

The big advantage that Enhanced Scope gives you over Advanced Sensors is that it lets you use that ship as a blocker, which is why I agree its probably best on a shuttle. That being said, unless I am running a Doom Shuttle, I really need FCS or AS on the Shuttle. The shuttle doesn't get to many shots and you need to make those count. I wonder how a Doom Shuttle would run with the Enhanced Scope and Anti-Pursuit Lasers. It would increase the cost by 3 points, but would then be a 2 trick pony.

All in all, I think its good to have it as an option, its just not a good option most of the time. I think most of it is that they were adding the B2 modification which is making the relatively pricey B-Wing even pricier so they wanted to give a system slot option that was cheaper.

Oh yeah, just to add:

A-Wings are AWESOME!!!!!

I think it could be quite useful on Corran Horn maybe.

Moving first and shooting first with that guy would be pretty great.
