Wand of Titania and certain spells

By Tiggurix, in Talisman Rules Questions

So, currently, there are six spells that, instead of being put in the discard pile for spell cards when cast, instruct to place that spell a board space, on an Enemy or Weapon or, in the case "Haunting Poltergeist", be taken as a follower by a character! So, what happens when one of these spells are drawn and placed on the Wand of Titania, and one uses the lightbound ability of the Wand? In my mind, there are three interpretations as to what happens:

1) The spell stays on the card, and a separate, unrelated card or token is used as a representation of the spell's effect.

2) The spell is moved from the Wand and placed on the card or place or whatever. You draw a new spell card to replace it.

3) The spell is moved from the Wand and placed on the card or place or whatever. You do not draw a new spell to replace it, which renders the wand effectively useless from then on.

Which interpretation do you guys and galls think is most valid?

This is a problem you can have with the Scribe too.

Probably you should use a proxy or something like in your option 1, but I have a better idea. The Spell goes to the target space or character and stays there until it would be discarded; when it happens, it returns to Titania’s Wand instead.

Yep totally agree with Warlock at least the Scribe is any spell but the wand is a spell.

Titanias wand certainly enables some interesting combinations. I got the Nullify spell on it last game... :)

Thank you Warlock! I certainly hadn't considered that option!

And yeah, Titania's wand seems like a very interesting item, and it doesn't seem as abusive as the Scribe, as it requires light fate in particular, which is harder for most characters to generate. Although I could certainly see the problem with a Titania's Wand with Temporal Warp (or most any spell), and the Enlightened destiny...

Try vortex... No Inner region for you hehehe.

I got that one, and it was glorious! My play group decided to limit it to three uses and it goes away after that, though. :-)

Titania's Wand is limited because it requires a character to spend light fate and to be lightbound. If you are unbound or fateless, you cannot use it. If you are darkbound, you're forced to ditch it. Before anyone raises the question, the Wand keeps its Spell if ditched on a space. I think it should work like the Genie or Spell Ring (see FAQ 1.1).

It can be annoying with certain Spells, but you need to have a continuous light fate source available. With the Enlightened it will make a powerful combo.

However, it's 2 random cards from different decks that must go to the same character during the same game, plus 1 annoying Spell that has to be drawn and put on the card. Possible, but unlikely if compared to the Scribe + Spellbook semi-automatic combo.

Yep totally agree Warlock. Although i disagree with the Scribe part (i don't think the scribe is game-breaking, but that's another debate)

There are a lot less moving parts, and luck, involved in order to make the Scribe a game-breaker. You just need the Scribe, a good spell, and a way to continously gain new spells regardless of how many you've already got, which at least two characters (the Warlock and the Fire Wizard) start with at the very beginning. One just cycles through spells with the Scribe until one finds one that is abusable, and then begin copying it, while the Wand is always limited to the spell that is drawn on it when revealed.

That's the problem with the Scribe. I don't think it's OP, I only think it can easily become annoying and overwhelming if a character has a constant source of Spells that grants him more than 2 Spells per round. This doesn't happen every time, and if it does, it's not granted the character will come up with an annoying Spell and wants to stick with it indefinitely. Casting the same Spell over and over again means that you're wasting all other Spells and that gives the character no flexibility. The only Spells I would keep forever are Temporal Warp, Temporal Vortex and Time Steal; they give an obvious strategic advantage over the other players, and are extremely annoying.

I didn't remove the Scribe from the City deck, not yet. :)
