Definiton of a battle, and planets battleabilities

By Menoth, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest - Rules Questions

Hi folks,

another question from an newbie.

I had a hard to time to figure this out so i drop the book and ask the pro´s.

It´s about the planet battleabilities.

My german rulebook says something like:

"You can use the planets ability after you won the battle."

So:

1.) There are up to three battles a round (1st planet, and one for each comander) so up to three planet effects can be activated, right?

2.) How is a battle defined? If my Commander is the only guy on the planet does this count as an battle? There where no shots fired, no one dies or even get wounded. This doesn´t sound like a battle.

On the other hand when im the only guy with troops on the 1st planet i win this one, so i also won an battle, or not?

My rulebook didn´t mention what happend if there are no opponents from the beginning.

Thanks for your replies.

In your example of an unopposed Warlord from the start they win that Battle soon as their combat turn starts. Unless their opponent plays some sort of an Ambush card or a card like Drop Pod Assault.

You win a battle once you are at the first planet or a planet with one or more warlords as soon as one of your ready units starts its combat turn unopposed by enemy units.

Sending your Warlord to a planet with no enemies is an almost sure-way of triggering the Battle ability there. The only way it might not happen is, as Toqtamish suggests, your opponent sneak-deploys a unit there with Ambush or similar.

1) Yes, up to 3 planet battle abilities can be triggered (they are optional) each round because there can be up to 3 battles each round.

2) Battles start in the Combat phase at the first planet (warlord present or not), and then at each planet that has at least one warlord present. The previous battle has to end before the next one begins. That's all you need for a battle to start. If no one "shows up" on the other side, the battle ends pretty much as soon as it starts (with no shots fired, no wounds taken, etc.), but it still starts, it still ends, someone still wins, and the planet's battle ability can still be triggered.
