What are the faction tokens on the IG-2000 for?

The picture shows a number of small faction tokens at the bottom. Any speculation as to what they're for?

My Ideas

  • Mercenary Ship Rules - Scum ships could be used in other factions and the tokens are a way of labeling them to prevent confusion.
  • An IG-2000 special power - One of the IG-2000s has a special power that uses them. Maybe after so many "kills" (3 tokens?), you gain a bonus.

For the "kills" option, I'm wondering if you can insert them on the model somehow (slots?). It would explain their small-ish size.

It's a large ship, so it's probably going to come with a mission. There are other missions that use the same tokens. I doubt they have any use in standard play.

I'd guess that they're not for use in standard play, but just in the missions that come with big base ships (and IG-2000 is a big base ship). Maybe something like a multi-faction battle where IG'88s are rampaging and they serve as kill counters for the different factions.

Oops, Dave beat me to it.

Whatever the mission is.

Yeah, most likely right....

Take the wind out of my sails.

Bounty tokens yea?

Shame, it'd be ace not to have to house-rule playing them as mercy in other factions

Notice the Target Locks, II, and JJ?

Does this mean there will be two IG-88s in JJ Abrams' Star Wars.... Probably not.

Remember how Emon Azameen was sympathetic with the Rebellion?

Remember how Emon Azameen was sympathetic with the Rebellion?

Nope. Who's he?

Emon Azameen is the brother to Ace Azameen. Emon owns a Firespray, and is one of the scum Firespray pilots. However, this means he could fly against The Rebellion.

...Or could he? If these tokens are what I believe them to be, scum pilots can be bi-factional. Why? Well think about it. IG-88 is a Bounty Hunter.

So, why would his services not be available to the highest bidder? For that matter, any of the Scum pilots? They even have an entire system revolving around a credits sign. This could easily mean that there's a card or just these tokens that denotes rebel or Imperial use.

Because truly.

What sense does it make, for Emon Azameen, a destroyer of Imperial fighters, someone who helps Ace who is a Rebel Pilot, to fight against Rebels? Absolutely none. Not from any standpoint.

So this could be a highest bidder system. That Scum is perhaps, multi-faction, if these tokens are any indication at all.

Maybe, but I think it's more likely that these tokens are for a mission. Granted, that mission could have some cross faction action.

Most likely, I forgot what pack has the dual sided rebel/imperial tokens but that would be my guess. Still it might be interesting to throw in a little area control objectives other than the standard kill all other ships.

A mission, of course, like every other large ship.

I'd like to note that "cross faction action" is an awesome phrase.

Well it would make an interesting twist, if you could use some scum on either rebels or empire forces. Especially for FFG and Business because they would sell twice as many. It may be something in the rules packet for IG88 that would be cool indeed.

If your hypothesis is that the tokens mean Scum can work for any faction, why do the tokens only come with the IG-2000?

Perhaps IG88 has some type of jamming device, or allows it to be reprogammed to work with other factions.

My guess was to mark controlled objectives during a mission that comes with the IG.

Scum working for other factions would be cool and fluff-appropriate, buuut I'm not holding my breath.

Do you remember that time when Porkins and Chewie were ambushed by a squadron of Tie Phantoms and had to fight their way out?

There are lots of things that happen in this game that don't make sense from a fluff perspective. Further, making S&V multi-faction is a terrible idea that would either lead to them being completely overpowerd, or weak beyond usability. If this were the case, scum ships would be so restricted design wise because they would have to take into account alll pilots from Imps and Rebs for balance including Howlrunner and Jan.

Unless they made some kind of balancing rule set to do it. Such as "Increase Serissu's cost by X if she's in a squad with Howlrunner", or "Scum pilot A cannot be used with Rebel pilots B,C, and D". But this would be horribly complex, requiring a lot more play-testing, which would slow releases.
