Lee Demmerath- Hanzo

Omar Chavez- Zangief

Evan (Dokuorider)- Zhao Daiyu

Garrison Brunell- Hilde

Jacob Yanda- Sagat maybe? I don't remember...

Top 4-

Kyoshiro

Hanzo

Zangief

Zhao Daiyu

Finals-

Zhao Daiyu vs Zangief

Zangief mill was just too nuts apparently. I had to play against it round 3 and it was bonkers.

How many people were there? I'm glad a Chun-li or Akuma etc etc deck didn't win (go mill BTW!). I'm so pissed at myself now that I didn't go. >:-(

Oh god with Nationals 3 weeks away is omar going to retain is title with another mill deck .... gran_risa.gif

Jacob was playing earth Gen, which means the only two 6 card hand-sizers in the top 8 finished 1st and 2nd. lulz

I think there was 16 people this year.

Having been one to help playtest it, I can say this is quite possible...

Zhao Daiyu vs Zangief

Winner- Zangief

Fixed. There were also no instances of someone being diversified, and other than there being 2 Astrids, everyone ran different characters.

not really shocked. Zangief is a beast and with Abelia's legal he kills three birds with one stone. (Mill, Vitality Gain, Card Draw).

Congrads Omar! And congrads to the Zhao Daiyu player. That looks INSANE! Oh and I have a question... Was the Gief deck single, dual, or tri symbol?

Mono-All from the look of the decklist, though he can probably chain off of Death if he wanted.

yup. [All] ftw.

and Doku's ZD deck was no slouch, very scary

You're deck could've ran off of void now that I think about it, but I can't really think of any mono-void cards that would help except maybe Air Base.

Congrats again. You've renewed my hatred for mill lengua.gif

I want to see decklist for both decks lol it just seems insane that these 2 decks finished top 2 i mean i know my zhao deck is beastly but i dont think its that good

Dokurorider's Zhao deck has already been posted, you can go check it out in the Deck Building section. Its a thing of beauty...

I wanted to play ZD so much but no 7 HS version is still rough with how the game is . The promo is great until you get hit with the anti discard /hax cards. But needless to say I am stooked to see my favorite shadowar character in the top 2.

yeah. no 7 hs is so rough when she can turn the opposing 7 hs character into a 5 hs just by turning sideways.

soooo rough. i mean, how in the world can she compete?

[/sarcasm]

Yeah, which never see play. They're sideboard fodder dood, and obviously dokurorider (what's up with that being a popular username? bemanistyle?) was aware when he built the deck and took it all the way to 2nd, failing to only the mighty behemoth that is Zangief. It's kinda like Worlds 2007, where people HAD access to Pure of Heart and Dodge Step, but it didn't stop people from running their Ukyos or Dhalsims.

Also, 7HS isn't important when your character can tutor like crazy. The guy was running Lord of the Makai, Kabuki Artist, AND Body of Souls. Yeah...there's your 7+ handsize...

Pssht

The Ways of Punishment + Twilight Embrace = lol. The main problem with Defender is simply, you might as well be packing Mega Spike.

But yeah, you could pull off something really lame, like using TWOP to rid them of their hand, and just every turn use Body of Souls or Defender funz to deplete their staging area, slowly killing them.

Well if your using chaos you could always just use tenacious to keep picking up her embrace every turn.

Go look at the decklist, it really is quite hot.

@Shinji: Using Ways of Punishment = you have no hand left to spill foundations after your attack, and decks that pack big draw tech can still block {not to mention Tira's/other autoblock abilities}. So if you just go Body of Souls grab Twilight Embrace -> TWOP your hand -> RFG 2 of your foundations -> go, you're gonna lose the grey war so hard your momma will feel it.

As for Defender, you are NOT better off playing Mega Spike. Mega Spike is a dead attack until have the loop on the board... Defender looping Sazan+Twilight Embrace = for every 2 momentum you have, if your opponent can't block, make a 4 check then a 5 check; if you succeed, you deal 10 damage and remove 4 of your opponent's cards from the game (plus once for the first pass through the combo). Even if your LotM got locked down, or you just have momentum from actually attacking , losing 8 cards and up to 20 life is definitely a good setup to kill someone with.

First off I dont know what the hell is wrong with the people your playing with. If everyone is running hax you run anti hax, thats just good play sense. I have not seen a deck in a while that didnt have anti hax in its deck if it was able, sideboard or not. Anti DIscard may not be seeing alot of play just yet, but thats also because blind discard is not as popular as it once was. Even then you may start seeing discard come back yet again, and then you will in turn see discard hate come back again.

You can point to 2007 all you want, and I'll just point to 2008 when James won quite a few games based entirley on running Chineese Sword Style in his sideboard.

I was expecting to see alot more anti-haxx being played, the only thing I ran into was Evil Plans in Garrison's Hilde deck. Pretty much the whole reason I ran Tsuji Hayate is to kill of Destiny, which I didn't see in any of my matches. Makes me wonder what people had in their sideboards.
