[SPOILERS] new Episode VII pics

By chilligan, in X-Wing

I didn't see a star destroyer in any of the images - one which specifically?

Also - I don't think Dominator is a ship class, merely a ship name (but I could be wrong)

I think he's referring to the 12th pic with the derelict Interdictor Star Destroyer in the background.

So, with the stormtrooper helmets and the TIE Fighter, clearly Episode VII will cover the attempted resurgence of the Imperials. Or... maybe they never went away and have always been a threat?

All I want to know is which character am I expected to feel a commonness with this time!

I was in grade 6th to 11th for Episodes 4-6, so I went right along with Luke, equating his advancement in the Force with my getting older. Empire Strikes Back taught me that adults that knew you as a child will haze you violently before they regard you equally, since you dare learn their secrets.

Many years in the future, the Empire is still using... Tie Fighters... facepalm

on the bright side, I am really liking the updated stormtrooper uniforms from the back

Collapsing empires don't have the luxury of not using something because it's old. Nor does old mean harmless. The Argentine Flagship during the Falklands War had been built in 1938, and was still a serious enough threat to order her sunk. In fact, the smaller the scale, the less advantage there is in high tech weaponry, a la ewoks. If the Argentines had managed to sink a carrier and nullify the UK task forces air support that "old" ship would have started looking very scary.

No reason why a TIE fighter couldn't still have a role to play 30 years later. And consider this: if you're having to make every ship count do to a lack of ship building capabilities, modifying a dozen old TIE's with shields or upgraded weapons might be 10 times cheaper and faster than building 3 brand new TIE defenders. And having 12 weaker vehicles is sometimes better than having 3 high-tec ones and being horribly out numbered, as the German Panzers learned in WW2.

I like the top pic but the odds are that none of these leaks are real.JJ is known for serious secrecy on his films (personally i think its because if anyone saw too much too early no one would go see them .But that is just one mans opinion) And there has been a flood of images some of which appear to be from a completed film

Dude, I love love love love that Stormtrooper armor. I hope this is actual concept art. All of it.

Also guys come on that is so obviously not a CR-90 I mean really.

We are still using F-15's

Relevant to X-wing are badass pictures of TIE Fighters, along with the New X-wings (which we've seen already). The TIEs seem to have a few modifications, wings look further apart and smaller (similar to the original concept art of the OT).

Interesting, the exterior of the TIE/LN hasn't changed much, excluding the engines, hope the components have had upgrades...

This all looks like the concept art from SWTFU 1 and 2, IM loven it.

Better yet the F-4 is still in use by the United States and Grease although we tend to use ours for target practice, Grease has the most advanced version of the Phantom at the moment.

Are you sure the German Panzers learned that lesson during WW2? I thought the died via Russian Stalin tank crews and Medium tank crews ;)

Old, reliable fighters are always going to stick around. A good example is the F-4 - first flown in 1958 (and while armed with advanced weapon systems for the time was considered a sub-par dogfighter), the Air Forces of Germany, Japan and South Korea still list them as active fighters - that's a fighter with a 56 year lifespan! Looking to the states, we still have the F-15 and F-16 in active fighting trim, both of which entered service in 1976, bringing them close to the forty year mark.

Ninja'd by the Black Knight. Though a convenient typo now has "Greased Lightning" running through my head.

It was a brief epiphany for most, but a few survived.

Hell, there are still countries using F-4s. A bunch of them were using Phantoms up until a few years ago.

Edit: Ninja'd, hard

I don't understand why people try to compare the rate of technology advancement in Star Wars to that of real life.

In Star Wars they have had the ability to go light speed for thousands of years. How much more advanced can you get then that.

If you want to talk about the life span of military equipment in modern times how about the M1911. Still in use 100 years later.

I just hope Tie pilots look the same.

its taken long enough to get my OT kit right..... :)

Yeah IM not diggin the fact X-Wing pilots look like they are wearing heli pilot style helmets. If JJ follows the formula GL did in designing Imperial Pilot helmets he will use those new Reb pilot helmets and throw a modded storm trooper face plate on it.

So there are no new ships in that art kind of disappointing.

I take no issue with any of these. Feel like they have just the right amount of grit/scum/dirty/techno scale.

So, I guess someone thinks it's worthwhile to put an Engine Upgrade on a TIE Fighter.

This imagery looks pretty **** good to me. I'm psyched. Of course, visually the PT looked pretty **** good too...

...but, I'm keeping faith.

So there are no new ships in that art kind of disappointing.

keep in mind this concept art could easily be pre-design art. Also if you saw that Rebel Hangar design, it looks like there's a short nosed X-Wing and a long fuselaged Y-Wing sketch. It's weird.

We'll see newer ships further fleshed out as time goes on.

I have complete faith in these films. Disney didn't spend $4.04 billion to throw it in the toilet.

they're fake.

if it were real JJ Abrams, there'd be way more lens flare.

I think it was on Daily Show a while back that JJ admitted he over-used lens flares after his wife told him he used too many lens flares. He finally listened at that point, allegedly.

So there are no new ships in that art kind of disappointing.

I think that's really just a speeder considering its height off the ground.

I hope I'm wrong though. That would make an amazing starfighter design.

Also those are totally X-Wing engines rigged onto that thing.

That cockpit looks too well enclosed to be just a speeder.

And if that's a person/droid in the window

it's only a little smaller than the Millennium Falcon.

So those aren't going to be the same scale as X-wing engines.

But now that I've re-scaled them for comparison,

I'm thinking it's not the only similarity, the design of the cockpit

windows of the new ship are the X-wing cockpit windows reversed.
