Dark Heresy via Skype

By Silverwind_Dragon, in Dark Heresy

Greetings, folks! I probably duplicate some existing topic, but in order to bring this issue to the top of the forum again, I'll start a new one.

So,are there players and GM out there, who wish to play DH, but doesn't have any fellow roleplayers in close vicinity ? If there are, I propose to play using skype and some other tools, like maptool and dicetool.

Personally, I'd prefer a GM to answer the call, cause i'm tired of being a GM myself and want to just play ;-)

So, if you're interested, post your skype adresses here, in this thread and we'll figure out the time and manner of our future gaming sessions!

To encourage outhers, here's my skype name: silverwind_dragon123

This sounds like it may be a good idea. I have to see first how many friends I can wrangle into playing a table top game, if not enough I may tie up a few to their computers and let some strangers play with us in something like Skype. Put me down for interested, but not ready just yet.

Fine, that's a start ) For my part, I have at least 2 friends ready to play by Skype (or 3, counting me). And btw, I've found a nice browser virtual tabletop, no installs and handy UI and an integrated dice roller. The only problem is with char sheets, but that's a minor inconvinience )

Rolling for stats and what not seems like it would require quite the honor system. I'm currently rolling up my first test character and found myself wondering "Did I really roll that 8 and a 4...or was that an 18 and 14... >.>" It may be difficult to be sure playing over the internet, unless you had a dice roller that showed the results to everyone.

Yeah, that's excatly it. All players see each other's rolls. Only the GM can hide his, if he chooses to. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I might be interrestd although I have people nearby I cna play with my skype is: SilverflowerN

I am actually never on unless I asked to log on skype btu I make a point out of doing it. my msn is [email protected]

If I did end up playing I'd be up for GMing, but I haven't had a chance to play the game yet. Is everyone else only interested in playing a character?

I run a game using online tools. I'd advise Ventrilo over Skype (which we have also tried), as Skype tends to disconnect folks at the slightest internet flicker.
While I have bought time on a hosted server (they are very cheap) you can run a server off your own computer for free that can host up to 8 people. There are plenty of tutorials on how to set it up, not difficult.

We use OpenRPG for dice rolls and maps, although I've heard maptool works fine too.

I'm interested in playing. But I also have a small group in real life so keep me on the low priority list ;)

my skype is williammathome

Well, I'm interested in playing a char, but I'll be happy to GM a few sessions, if nobody else wants to. As for rolling and map tools, I have RPGTonight.com in mind for that.

Ok, I'll contact those of you, who had given their addresses in skype. As for the technical issues - i haven't noticed any problems in skype with up to 6 people in a conference, and I don't think we'll need more to play )))

Well I could also be GM some off the time, I jsut do not want to carry al lofthe load. But if we are a few who takes turn I think it would work out.

That would be the wisest choice ) Ok, as soon as I'm back from work I'll begin skyping people ))) And one more thing - what's your.. hmm.. geographical position, should I say? ))) I ask so that I can figure out the difference in time.

I'll have to pass for now. I haven't even gotten through the rulebook yet other then making up a little test character. I'll try to hop on the next wagon if it comes up. Have fun everyone!

I'm all up for running a short Dark Heresy campaign over Skype, though I won't be free to do so until the middle of July. I'd probably run a test first, with a one-shot adventure and pre-generated characters.

On the subject of dice rolling, with people I know I would just use the honor system. If not, I have an alternative diceless mechanic that gives the players a bit more control, though removes the nuances of percentile dice, and prevent's all possabuility of cheating provided the GM is keeping track of things. The short of it: every player gets ten numbers that stand in for possible percentile dice rolls (00,10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90), Whenever a percentile roll is called for, the player get's to choose and "spend" an outcome from the list. The list refreshes after all numbers have been spent. The player has some control over when their character succeeds or fails. Fate points work as per normal, with the additional clause that you can spend a Fate Point to refresh your list at any time. Any d10 roll is treated as a 5. Power Rolls are made as per normal, with the GM handling the dice.

Once I'm free I'll try to set something up.

Well I talked to Eilonthyr last night and he is from Europe like me. But what about you ?

Russia, that's why I'm worried about possible difference in time. I'm currently in Moscow, and thus in UTC +3 time zone.

Well seems like it might fit pritty well depending on job and work time,, being within 2 hours of each other.

Right. So, can you be in skype around 19.30-20.00 (moscow time) today, so that we can discuss future gaming in greater detail?

My friends and I always use http://invisiblecastle.com for our dice rolling online. It keeps track of all rolls in a database and gives you a link to them.

As for online chat - I haven't tested it, but you could try http://www.oovoo.com/ , it allows for video conferencing of more than 2 people.

Sure I can be there.
