The Breaking of the Fellowship

By Kcall07, in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

Just wondering,

How do people hope the designers handle the breaking of the fellowship in the Treason of Saruman?

Do you hope (like myself) that they include new rules for two groups of heroes? One for Frodo's quest and one for Aragorn's (and the others.)

Or are you happy to ignore the geographical and thematic differences and have a constant group for the entire campaign?

Personally, I like to recreate the events as accurately as possible when playing a Saga quest. For me the split story is the essence of the novel, with Frodo's personal journey juxtaposed against the grand drama of the war. If the designers choose the latter option it might be one of the only times I would adopt a house rule.

Judging by how they handled the kidnapping of Merry and Pippin - it's probably will be the case you described.

I think they will devote the 4th Saga box to Frodos journey of the Two Towers. As for the spoiled themes of the quests and the Fellowship hero being Aragorn, this box will be about the Three Hunters and their part of the story. I don't think they'll include new rules for that part.

Sorry, I was referring specifically to the Heroes the player uses for each Saga box. As we know, there is a threat penalty for changing heroes mid campaign. That means, under the standard rules, if you choose the three hunters for the Treason of Saruman you will also be forced to use them for Frodo's part of the journey. What I'm wondering is if the designers will allow us to use two distinct groups of heroes, one for each storyline, without incurring the threat penalty.

Aha, yeah I hope so. And I think they will let us. Just as what they did with RD, we were allowed to choose which heroes we would use without penalty threat. I also hope that they would rule that we cannot use Sam and Frodo during Treason of Saruman, because they were somewhere else.

I'm wondering how Frodo and Sam will play separately of all other heroes. Will it be represented as any way? Curious...

It won't obviously. Unless Sam becomes a Fellowship hero.

Sam may well be a fellowship hero. He did carry the ring for a while.

Yeah, I'm sure they're going to provide rules so that we can change our heroes without penalty and create two separate parties. I don't think they would have provided a Fellowship Aragorn if they weren't going to do this. I have faith in them.

Also, I feel like Caleb made some comment about this in a Gen-Con interview with Team Covenant...
