Please help a rebel player who is yet to win a game!

By runningmonkey, in X-Wing

Hi folks

This is a sorry tale, I have had about 15 games of xwing and am yet to come away with a single win!! I NEED HELP!

We normal play in a group game 2 v 2 using my ships verse a my friends imperial fleet, on Saturday we playing a 200 point game (biggest yet) and I need help with my fleet and some tips to finally win a game

My ships are...

3 X wings

2 A Wings

1 Y Wing

1 Falcon

Can anyone help me with building a fleet list and some tips please?

Thanks in advance John

are you guys relatively new, somewhat casual?

Or is the other team pretty good and kinda competitive?

working on it.

Given what you have:

Tarn Mison — X-Wing 23
R7 Astromech 2

Whenever an enemy declares you as a the target, you may Target Lock on him.

Then, once per round, when Tarn is defending, you may spend the TL to force your opponent to reroll any, or all of his attack dice. You can still acquire target locks after you use the Astromech and then use it offensively when it is Tarn's turn to shoot.

Garven Dreis — X-Wing 26

Take the focus action to pass the focus token to a friendly ship when you spend it.

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29
Swarm Tactics 2

Boost a friendly ship to PS 9 in the Combat Phase, be The Wedge.

Lando Calrissian — YT-1300 44
Veteran Instincts 1
Chewbacca 4
No Transport means no C-3PO but Chewie is a good alternative. Use Lando's ability to get some more free actions.

"Dutch" Vander — Y-Wing 23
Ion Cannon Turret 5
Proton Torpedoes 4

Dutch packs a punch initially, and is a nuisance afterwards with his Ion Cannon Turret and Target Lock dispensing.

Prototype Pilot — A-Wing 17
Homing Missiles 5

Note, you don't spend your Target Lock to fire Homing Missiles. So if they choose to ignore this guy and you get to first take a Target Lock, then a Focus in the next round (or a Focus from Garven, or Lando in the same round) you will fire with Target Lock AND a Focus Token and he cannot spend Evade tokens against it.

Prototype Pilot — A-Wing 17
Chardaan Refit -2

Use him as a blocker.

for 200 pts

just what i can come up with using the ships you have

I like to make my opponet come to me and i like when most of the astroieds are on my side of the table that way tere flying into them and i try to trap them there

don't worry about losing a lot it will make you a better player in the end

This would be my fun choice:

Wedge Antilles (29)

Push the Limit (3)
R2-D2 (4)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Prototype Pilot (17)
Total: 99
I'm assuming the other player on your team is taking 100 points as well?

This is a relatively easy list. The only thing to be wary of it letting your opponent focus down the Falcon. If he doesn't he should take a lot of damage over the course of the game.

Han Solo (46)
Luke Skywalker (7)
Chewbacca (4)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Total: 100
Both of my suggestions require no cards that you don't have.

Wow this great massive thanks, And I love the tips and info as well :D

I have no lists to help .. but I wanted to post to say I completely empathise with you.

I got into this game for X-wings. I play rebels because X-wings are the coolest spaceships ever .. in my opinion. To emphasise this point ... I have 6 lego ones. If I had a child, it's name would be 'X' .. middle name 'Wing'.

I also found the Imps kicking my freckle every game.

I did one thing to balance it out. Original Trilogy. I realised that I love X-Wing, not for the game, but for the Star Warsing it does.

So, I only play OT with my friends (seeing as I introduced them to the game, provide all the models and they are like minded fellas .. they don't really get a choice). I find, regardless of whether I win I lose, I have a blast.

It completely changed my perspective on the game. I enjoyed it much more, tried new things and started to win some games.

My advice, find what you love about this game .. and ignore everything else. Maybe you will never win a game .. but by golly-josh .. you will have fun.

OP isn't going to have a lot of the stuff in this lists. He's missing Tarn, R7, Chaardan Refit, and Swarm Tactics.

It's hard to go back to limited options once I get the expansions. So, I keep wanting to put R7-T1 on a Dutch. Still, without that, I came up with a list:

Dutch Vander w/ Ion Turret and Engine Upgrade

Garven Dries

2 x Rookie

Dutch and Garven pass off the Focus and TL to those that need it. Try to have the X-wings get mixed in one at a time, so you have one K-turning while the others are firing or getting into position. Pass the bonus stuff to whoever has the shot that round.

What does your opponent have? Anything specific to watch out for? If you are limited with early stuff and he's got Phantoms, it's a different list to build.

My ships are...

3 X wings

2 A Wings

1 Y Wing

1 Falcon

Can anyone help me with building a fleet list and some tips please?

Thanks in advance John

Get yourself an E-wing ASAP:

Wedge Antilles (29)

Outmaneuver (3)

Total: 32

Assuming you have at least one core set and X-wing expansion cards...

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

R2 Astromech (1)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

R2-D2 (4)

Rookie Pilot (21)

R5-D8 (3)

Rookie Pilot (21)

R5 Astromech (1)

Total: 99

Yes an E would make it easy to make some good lists.

Two Zs would help later too.

You don't have a B either. Which is an excellent ship.

I'd get an E first.

If you got money to burn then get 2 Bs either single or via rebel aces. You only need 1 aces to furnish multiple As and Bs btw.

Then after that if your rich uncle dropped by and died you should get Zs. 2 is fine. 3 is good. 4 or 5 is excellent.

If you can proxy a few cards then I'd go for the following three amigos list:

Biggs (25)

R2-D2 (4)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Luke (28)

Predator (3)

R5-P9 (3)

Wedge (29)

Veteran Instincts (1)

R7-T1 (3)

The idea is to keep Biggs around for as long as possible and then force your opponent to concentrate on either Luke or Wedge, leaving the other alone when they don't want to face either of them in the endgame. Luke can always keep his focus for shield regeneration and no one wants to suffer Wedge's effect for the entire game, particularly as he can reposition himself with the droid to make sure he always gets a shot or arc dodge.

If you can't get predator and the two droids then I would keep Biggs the same and throw PtL, R2 and EU on Luke, leaving two points of upgrades for Wedge (or initiative), probably swarm tactics or veteran instincts.

Hope this helps your 100 point games!

You could always come to the Dark Side...

Yes admit you picked the wrong faction and join the proud imperial navy!

This is a relatively easy list. The only thing to be wary of it letting your opponent focus down the Falcon. If he doesn't he should take a lot of damage over the course of the game.

Han Solo (46)
Luke Skywalker (7)
Chewbacca (4)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Total: 100
Both of my suggestions require no cards that you don't have.

This is list very newbie friendly

Play Imps

The empire has the better ships we have the classic tie interceptor, the deadly phantom and the pinnacle of star fighter design the tie defender!

This one would be useful:

Han Solo (46)

Draw Their Fire (1)

Millennium Falcon (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Ion Turret (5)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

R2-D2 (4)

Use Biggs to draw attacks, and keep him close to Han Solo for extra survivability. R2-D2 also helps with shield regeneration on green maneuvers. Use the Ion turret for crowd control.

I'm not going to offer list advice, but simple gaming advice. Fly what you want to man. I understand you're coming here for help, but all these netlists can be tricky to make work properly unless your are a seasoned xwing player. If you like X-wings, roll with them. X with the falcon? Game on!

As for some actual list advice, which is what you asked for, maybe it would help us tweak your lists better if you could post a couple lists of your own? Then we can see what play style you like and alter our list suggestions to what you like to fly. Also post up some of your opponent's lists too so we can see what you fly against.

I will say that you have a solid core of ships to learn on, so that's good. Remember: Fly casual.

Everything Alaric said. Flying casual is a great part of the game.

Yeah. You might want to consider how well youre flying. DO you have more shots than your opponent? Do you roll green dice often? do you ALWAYS have a focus or TL?

Are your u-turns typically safe and don't involve you fighting with stress and no focus versus a focused shot?

Do you hit asteroids?

If you answer badly to any of these questions, it means you need to fly better.

I understand the feeling! Though with me it is the other way around.

I like Empire, but I am terrible with them.

I am reasonable with Rebels though, but mainly due to the more tanky ships like the B and Y-wing.

As they do not explode after one attack towards them they can be a little more forgiving ^_^
