Is Rebel Aces worth getting?

By gundamv, in X-Wing

Wookiepedia has Keyan listed at varying times as an A wing flight leader, an X wing and Y wing pilot and a test pilot for the B wing and one of its first combat users.

I cant *really* see an issue with him being a B wing pilot.

The only thing i think they should so is do altenative craft cards for pilots known to fly more than one.

So there should be a Keyan Y, X and A

There should be a Luke E wing pilotcard and base chit

etc etc

Now i've finished my TIE costume i need to do a custom reprint 'Gadge Europa' tie interceptor pilot card and chit.

I think i'll use soontir fel as a base ... cos i'm modest like.

I love A wings so yes.

This is on wookie pedia.. i've not read the book so its possible vader flies an advanced alongside a flight of defenders (wouldnt make any sense but its possible) but the implication is its a flight of defenders which he is part of.

"Upon the discovery of Grand Admiral Zaarin's plot against Emperor Palpatine , the Sith Lord Darth Vader employed the TIE Defender's abilities in that role, breaking through Zaarin's lines to reach the planet Coruscant . Lord Vader's flight group destroyed the Immobilizer 418 cruiser Harpago , which was attempting to block his imperative voyage. [2] "

But its supposition without reading the book i cant be sure that the slightly crazy option of leading an elite new task force with a shonky old advanced was what acutally happened :)

Rebel Aces is amazing. It adds Keyan. KEYAN!! (You probably don't even know who he is so this comment is pointless :D ) My only complaint is that he is in a B-wing..... He always flew Ys......

well he was the only survivor of the first death star battle in a Y wing.

Given the B wing was the successor to the Y wing it sort of makes sense he's in one ?

The thing is, he is from the X-wing game, and he loved Y-wings (just like Maarek Steele loves Advanceds), and he almost never flew B-wings, it's like putting Vader in a Defender just because it is the replacement of the Advanced.

....well, apart from during this campaign, you mean:

I understand your hesitation on Imperial Aces where RG Pilot and RG TIE title are the only ones that see actual use after first try in our meta at least, but Rebel Aces is completely different package. It is full of good stuff.

I dunno, imp aces swung me round totally onto EU stuff. I was very much OT only before then but the red royal guard scheme grew on me. As did the blood striped int (enough to paint my regular int to match it).

Then i got a few graphic novels out the library and its totally increased my enjoyment of the franchise.

Kir Kirnos (or whatever his name is) is baddass in the crimson empire books so now i love flying him with an escort of two royal ties.

I don't play rebels but a friend of mine does and I think the new ships in Rebel aces are brilliant, both in terms of fun and effectiveness in game. So I would recommend it.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I love Imperials, but have never and doubt I will want to buy Imperial Aces. The Tie Interceptor isn't really one of my favorite ships and I don't see much use from the ships you get from the Imp Aces.

I did buy Rebel Aces, though. I thought about it for a couple of weeks. The pilots and upgrades are worth it. The upgrades for A-wings are great, as well as getting a crew in a B-wing. The pilots are pretty neat, too. They aren't "OMG...YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT!"....which is actually why I like the expansion. It adds in a bunch of cool stuff that just gives you more options. I really like the ability to give your A-wings an EPT.

I really like the ability to give your A-wings an EPT.

Or even an *extra* EPT with test pilots....

Chimera games in Beeston (edge of Nottingham, UK) have ruckloads of Rebel Aces in stock.

Loads of Y wings, Tie/ln , Xwings and Tie adv too.

Buy all the Y-wings...... you know you want to run a 12 Y epic list!

Wait, there are people who *don't* want to?????

Everything is worth buying at least one of, except maybe the corvette

Yes, of course it is. Since when is buying anything Star Wars optional? :P

Jokes aside, the Meta in my neck of the woods has changed since Rebel Aces with A-Wings one shotting phantoms thanks to those torpedoes... any questions? ;)

Yes. Both Aces packs are worthwhile. I have two of each and no regrets.

Ditto the above

Proton rockets and the A-wing love make it worthwhile. I'm not to sure about the b-wing crew, but at least it's another option you get. Making the a-wings cheaper is a very good move and blows new life into them. What I am really wondering right now... is it worth to buy 2 or not. I doubt i will ever fly more than 3 a-wings (even though it is possible, and sounds fun for a tryout), so... Then again, i already have a second copy incoming so....

(and yes, it is available in mainland Europe right now)

Well, it's about time :P

I do think it's become a must-have for Rebel players. As a mostly-Imperial player, I didn't really need it, but I've flown a couple of rebel games (in order to learn how to finally crush them like the traitors they are), and the Rebel Aces are a lot of fun.
