Favorite factions

By sammann11, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

So we've all been chained to the gaming table for a week plus now and have probably gotten a good feel for how awesome this game is. That said, what are thoughts on your favorite faction and why?

1) Favorite for fluff/theme?

2) Favorite for mechanics?

3) Best/Stongest deck in your opinion?

4) Least favorite - and why?

My answers would be:

1) Chaos. I picked up a codex as a young tween and those crazy horned helmets, bloodied axe blades and drooling demons instantly seared themselves into my brain. Bad-ass was the term that came to mind. Felt that way ever since...

2) Dark Eldar - enjoy the control aspect.

3) Eldar with some DE - soft control with a few hard control events and ranged units thrown in has been pretty killer.

4) AM (or IG as it were) - I just find them so unexciting. Drab gray and green, old tanks, "World War" feel to them. I dunno...I mean, army guys in green uniforms: that's not that exciting to me (especially compared to strange aliens and slavering demons).

While there are people that are posting here, you may enjoy a better and more active response for this type of stuff (and answers to rules questions for that matter) over at cardgamedb where most of the active octgn players and playtesters have congregated, where there's been quite a lot of active discussion on deck constructs, approaches, and the like.

1) Favorite for fluff/theme?

Dark Eldar, turning your opponent's units and tactics against them is just vile.

2) Favorite for mechanics?

Eldar, so many tricks.

3) Best/Stongest deck in your opinion?

Mono Chaos/Mono Tau.

4) Least favorite - and why?

Tau - ugly space commies.

1) Favorite for fluff/theme?

Orks, just because they are how they are: kinda slow-witted, aggressive, and with that awesome dialect and words they use. In a strange way they also are the faction which can make me laugh a lot. As a bonus they got Grots and Snotlings.

2) Favorite for mechanics?

Chaos. I like their direct damage events. It´s cheap and simple, just as I am. It fits perfectly-

3) Best/Stongest deck in your opinion?

I skip that. Not enough games under my belt to feel sure. But I think that marines are pretty strong.

4) Least favorite - and why?

Space Marines, mostly for their fanatical-religiuos fluff.

1) Fluffiness: probably Chaos. I'm a big fan of the Horus Heresy, plus the whole idea of the Warp being a psycho-physical reflection of the thoughts of sentient races (particularly those with psychic ability).

2) Mechanics: Astra Militarum - have a problem? Throw more guys at it. Always more meat for the war machine (which is actually also very in-fluff for the faction).

3) Strongest: Can't call. Only had a few games and only 1 core set. Marines have the obvious strengths, but I think with a skilled player perhaps Eldar or Dark Eldar might be stronger.

4) Least favourite: Dark Eldar. The faction I know least about in terms of Lore, so I'm less emotionally invested, and I find them hard to play right on the table. I don't think they're weak necessarily, just that I'm bad at them :P
