General Weiss's Weapons

By Nematode, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I was looking at the upcoming mini for General Weiss for the Imperial Assault game:

I am excited about using all the minis for Imperial Assault in my EotE campaigns. The General Weiss in particular intrigues me as I have no clue what that AT-ST is packing.

Clearly if I were to try to kit out the walker by the rules in the book, it wouldn't be possible. An AT-ST only has one hardpoint after all. That technicality aside, what do you think it looks like he has bolted onto the side of his walker's cockpit?

The walker appears to have five weapons in total:

1) The chin mounted twin heavy blaster cannon looks stock.

2) The starboard concussion grenade launcher is probably also stock.

3) Below the grenade launcher on the starboard side is what appears to be a large rapid-fire slug thrower of some sort. I don't even know that a profile for such a weapon exists.

4) The port light blaster cannon appears to have been upgraded to something much larger -- perhaps a single heavy laser cannon?

5) Above the cannon on the port side is a strange three-slot toaster looking contraption. It is angled upward suggesting some sort of projectile is to be fired from it using a balistic arc. I'm making a guess that it might be some kind of net-launcher with three charges loaded (one per slot).

Any ideas?

You can get more hard points by stripping out weapons and adding new ones in its place.

The port side toaster looks like a missile pack of some sort to me.

Just to be sure, we’re talking about comparing the original image at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/imperial-assault/SWI01-plastic.png with the new one at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/imperial-assault/news/figure-packs/SWI03-09Figures.png, right?

Perhaps you could take these images and annotate them graphically, to show us what you’re talking about?

The first image is the stock AT-ST we see in Empire on Hoth and Return on Endor. The second one is a new design

Right, so comparing these images against the AT-ST units shown on page 264 of A-CRB, and looking through the list of weapon upgrades on pages 240 and 287 of that same book, I’m willing to guess that the port-side weapon is a Heavy Blaster Cannon on an Oversize External Weapons Mount (DC, page 60). The weapon on the starboard-side might be a Light Ion Cannon, also on an Oversize External Weapons Mount.

But I have no idea what the box-shaped object is above the port-mounted weapon. The elongated slits would be appropriate for a device that launched circular-shaped disks or rings, but I don’t see any kind of missiles meeting that very narrow and very tall profile.

And I’m seeing something on the port side that is looking like it might be a launcher with semi-exposed tips of missiles or grenades, but I can’t be sure.

Man, somebody did a real Tinker job on this thing and added a whole bunch of HP and heavy duty weapons. Now we just have to kill the guy and take it from him! ;)

That large box on the left side above the big gun could also be an auxiliary generator or a radiator for the weapon below it.

Wouldn't it be nice if those ally/villain packs also came with a minion, rival or nemesis adversary card for the SWRPG? C'mon FFG, it's just one extra card per pack -- think of the cross promotion!

Here are a couple pictures numbered according to my original post.

The picture of the model is of course the one I am most interrested in, but the #2 weapon is hidden behind the cockpit.

The drawing shows all of the weapons. I assume #2 is the grenade launcher even though it doesn't really look like the one on the vanilla AT-ST.

Gotta love the knee pads they added to this one. I guess it makes sense that the joint may be a weak spot so they put a plate over it, but the idea of a robot wearing knee pads makes me laugh a bit.

Actually, the shape of the toaster looking thing (5) kind of reminds me of this little toy from Dangerous Covenants:

If you look at the original AT-ST that they’re working from:

You will note that it also has the same knee pads. The thought threw me off, at first. But it does kind of make sense, now that you mention it.

Anyone considered the toaster might be an External Catering System?

It could be a tractor beam, maybe...?

"We've got to get this toast to the command post immediately!"

I wonder if the "kneepads" also provide a surface so the at-st can kneel down for easier crew acces away from a base.

It could be a tractor beam, maybe...?

It would be cool to replay a scene from TFU.

Just curious, where can you actually purchase these?

So far as I know, you can’t buy any of them anywhere. At least, not yet.

I would imagine that FFG would make them available for sale from their website, in the relatively near future, but that might be months away. Same for buying them in your FLGS.

Or, who knows — we might all get a very pleasant surprise next week. Beats me.

But soon, I hope.

announcement is roughly a month before release. You can also get them in game stores when it is released.
