I feel like such an outsider in this thread. I hate the vong but desperately want more factions. So I'm foaming at the mouth from just OPs title. Yes please! More ships that I have to blow up in different ways and find new tactics to defend against.
Would the Vong make a good fourth faction?
Let's wait and see how Scum & Villiany turn out before we start asking for more factions.
I'd say no- they just don't really fit in the Star Ware style. Biological ships just don't have the same impact in my opinion. For a new faction I think they could go with "Independent Systems" such as the Hapians, Corporate Sector, Corellian Security, the Hutt worlds...
Now Thrawn...I'd love for Thrawn to be the head of what ever is Imperial in the new movies. Really, really good villian.
For a new faction I think they could go with "Independent Systems" such as the Hapians, Corporate Sector, Corellian Security, the Hutt worlds...
I'd say "Hutt" fits best with the 'Scum' faction (notably because: they are already there! The M-3A Scyk is a Hutt fighter.)
I could see a "Planetary Governments" faction, though. And, yeah, Hapans, Corporate Sector Authority, etc make sense in that context. As well as holdovers from the Clone Wars that retain major political or military power - lots of possibilities, there. (And, heck, more Z-95 variants! LOL...)
So far, it seems like an overwhelming "NO" to the Vong.
Yes!
Oh wait... I meant to say: NNOOOOOOOOO!!!!
No matter your opinions, the Vong are not going to show up in X-Wing for one very simple reason:
They were not present during the Galactic Civil War.
Even the Clone-Wars era Y-Wing and Z-95, and the far-extended E-Wing, were all presented within the battle of the Galactic Empire versus the Rebel alliance to restore the republic. The Yuuzan-Vong were never a part of that conflict, and so will never show up in X-Wing.
Yes yes fringe conflicts whatever... the Vong were never as significant to the degree that the Scum and Villany even were.
And I think if arms had to be twisted for a forth faction my guess would be separatist holdouts, honestly. They are the only other faction remotely close enough to the GCW era to be belligerent with the three parties already introduced.
No!
And I'll throw my NO into the mix
Just no, others hit it, but all living tech, but immune to the force, that was crap thinking. Bottled crap.
I don't think a 4th faction would ever be needed. Between Rebels, Imperials, and Scum, you can pretty much fit any empire/rebellion-era ship into one or more of those factions.
Smugglers and Spies as a faction would easily be a case-by-case split into all three factions, but mostly Scum I would think.
Not a good concept within the EU, not enough ships for this game, generally reviled by fans, probably not going to remain within the Disney-SW universe at all. So no, no, no and no they would not be a good addition at all.
I have no idea what the "Vong" are.
Judging by the various reactions to this thread, I'm happy to keep it that way.
Nooooooooo!

I was wondering if the Vong had enough variety of ships to be considered a faction.
Thanks for posting this question. I've given it a lot of thought myself, but I pretty much knew the majority vote, so I was too afraid to post the question. I think that if FFG released the Vong, they would do an amazing job with it. I think the arguments that it's outside the timeline are probably a bit thin. If FFG wants to expand the timeline of their game, they can (and I think they probably will). I also think that Planetary Defense Forces, including Hapans and Corporate Sector Authority, would be more thematic in the current timeline, and I'd be really excited about those.
But for now, I'm happy with a 3rd faction just to provide some variety to my opponents' lists.

So say we all.
So say we all.
All this has happened before, and will happen again...
We don't need a forth. If for some mad reason they add one I hope its not the Vong. I like the S&V though. Its looking good.
No.
Just....no.

This thread made me chuckle, and reminisce ... why, it was only just a few months ago when it was a virtual CERTAINTY (according to most members on this forum) that we would NEVER EVER EVER have a 3rd faction.

"Would the Vong make a good fourth faction?"
No.
I doubt we need to have force immune space orcs that live in giant organic ships. I mean they would be easily the most broken thing even if they were added their ships could use black holes to absorb laser fire and torpedoes. Plus I doubt we need purple potato ships on the table.
Imagine a whole faction made up of canor jax and that could reduce your fire power even more.
Now with that said if FFG did make them I'm sure they would balance it out. I just sorta hope they don't.
I would say "no" as well. I want to see how things evolve with a third faction first before a fourth one is added...
Besides... a Mandalorian based faction would be way cooler... just saying... ![]()
When I read the first book with the YV I immediately thought they were a SW knockoff of the Borg. And it was. Also <minor spoiler?> they kill a character or two in that series that I don't see Disney approving of so I'm betting that series and it's effects will most definitely going retain 'Legends' status
So, if you like the Borg, there is a game for that..... TL;DR: no
