Your favorite faction and why

By Papa Midnight, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

Simply put, what is your favorite faction in this game?

While I have yet to physically look at the cards and decide which race to hone my skills with, what do you guys play with?

:)

I've tried out all of the factions except for Eldar, and so far my favourite is Chaos, followed closely by Tau. I am biased in my favouritism towards Chaos, as I used to play them in the tabletop, but their playstyle in this game is a lot of fun.

I've had a lot more fun with Tau than I thought I would, so will be keeping them as one of my "go-to" decks.

I always root for the underdog...So I am -seriously- toying around with a mono Dark Eldar deck...As a long time fan of the 40K genre, I have a love for all of the factions, but I REALLY want to win with the Dark Eldar for some reason (I guess they bring out the masochist in me).

Are the Dark Eldar weak or are they just perceived to be weak in this game?

I've yet to see the cards, so please excuse me with this.

In my opinion, they are weaker in you are more draw dependent and have to play the game in a more indirect style. I find them alot of fun to play, but a bad draw can put me in trouble early. Still my fav faction to play.

My favorite faction so far is Marines, but even the ones I didn't expect to like are tremendous fun and seem to be effective. I'm surprised how much I like Tau, for example.

My reasoning for liking Marines has to do with how they've shaped the mechanics of the faction to represent the actual tactics they are supposed to utilize. A Space Marine is a superhuman warrior--far mightier a great number of lesser foes, and capable of standing up to those theoretically even mightier than themselves. They are deployed in surgical strikes to decapitate opposing power structures in the most efficient attack possible. So, their cards get a fair bit of AoE (killing lesser foes), plus Indomitable, which reflects how Space Marines can and have stood up to any enemy imaginable. Cato's Signature squad takes this theme further, with taking down huge monster enemies (Fury of Sicarius).

Really, though, the coolest thing is that all the factions work in this way. All of them take one or more major themes of the faction from the lore and translate it into solid game mechanics. So, since the ideal of the challenging knight/classical monster-slaying hero appeals to me, mechanics that emulate it are the reason that my favorite faction is Space Marines. But if I was interested in devious tactics and incredible foresight that combine to outmaneuver my enemies, I would love the Eldar, because they are designed to make that aspect of Eldar lore a reality. Likewise for the overwhelming fire- and manpower of the Astra Militarum, the advanced equipment of the Tau, or the way that the immortal power of Chaos Daemons is fueled by mortal devotion and sacrifice.

DE is my favorite, too. Though I'm going to try my ranged heavy deck in... Eldar/Tau :(

For now, adding Doom is probably the one splash I'd make in a "mono" DE deck, since DE don't have any hard hitting units. If DE get an attachment that increases attack, or a support like the one for AM, ranged Dark Eldar/Eldar will be awesome.

Dark Eldar is my favourite for thematic reasons, then comes Orks and Chaos for pure kill-fest potential.

My favorites to play right now are Eldar and Tau. I really enjoy the Eldar playstyle with their tricks and misdirection.Tau are also pretty interesting because they have some unusual interactions and great firepower up their sleeves. I'm really finding it much more challenging and rewarding to play these factions, whose playstyles may not be as straightforward as others.

Orks are my favorite. I find them just fun to play. I'm really looking forward to the next Ork warlord.

Chaos/DE probably fit my play style the best.

Mono DE are "weak" because their cheap units lack command, and in general DE units tend to be low HP. DE have to play carefully to win command and combat. If DE fall behind they have a hard time recovering.

Space Marines and simply because that is the army I play in 40K anyway.

My suspicions are that an Ork-Chaos deck would just dominate in "killing unit cards" left and right, but I haven't yet come across a thread that states this...

Am signed on with cardgamedb. Thanks. :)

Dark Eldar Baby. I love the challenge that the Dark Eldar present; they are a glass hammer yes, but what a hammer they are when deployed correctly. Let's put it this way, I would rather play 40k and loose consistently with a faction/army that I enjoy, rather than win consistently with a faction/army just because it is a winning juggernaut that crushes all before it. Win or loose, when I get the chance to deploy with my favorite faction, every game is a win for me.

Cheers
