Single faction decks, no allies

By sammann11, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

I come to this game (which I already love less than 2 weeks in) from a primarily Warhammer: Invasion background. In that game it was rare that I had other factions/allies on my decks. Sure, I might have 1 or 2 allies in some of my decks (3 copies each) and of course the occasional neutrals, but that was about it. Still, many of them were fairly strong - if I say so myself! ;)

So far the buzz has seemed to me that dang near every Conquest deck is being built with allies according to the wheel. I dunno - I guess I like sticking with your sole faction when deck building.

Do you all agree with me or am I off base here?

Does anyone think you can make viable, competitive decks with just 1 or 2 ally cards, or even none at all?

You can stick with a single faction when deckbuilding. Building a deck with only a couple of ally cards is viable. When I build my decks they normally only have a few ally cards in the deck. Normally to help strengthen some of the weak areas of the faction. As they release more cards, over time single faction decks will become more and more viable.

That being said, certain factions are a lot better at going mono-faction than others. For example, my Tau deck has almost no ally cards at all. In fact, my first version of it didn't have any. However, due to the troubles with the command phase that Dark Eldar tend to have, allies are a bit more important to them at the moment.

I suspect that we will not need allies soon after more support packs come out....
