The City at Night

Talisman City and Bloodmoon Rule set

Overview

This Talisman rule set includes a new time card with rules within on how it is played with.

This Rule set can only be used if Bloodmoon and the City expansions are being used players can use the new time card instead of the old one if they like ignoring the effects on the City region if not used in game.

Expansion Rules

For all purposes the new time card is the same as the old time card with these extra rules governing its interaction with the game

  • When characters are in the City region and the time card is flipped to night (or is on night) all shops are closed (no player may enter a shop while it is night) if a player is in a shop at the start of their next turn as well leaving the shop they cannot enter another shop until it becomes day.

  • If it becomes night after a player enters a shop the player can still encounter the shop as if day. The only way a player cannot enter a shop if it becomes night is if it becomes night before they roll for movement.

  • When its night no player can enter the City region or leave the City region treat the City space as a (no enter or move through space) until it’s Day.

  • Players are free to teleport to any space in or out of the City during night when using any teleport effect.

  • When a player is in Jail at night they may roll 2 dice to escape instead of one (taking the best result of the two dice.

If someone could make a better new time card it would be much appreciated mine as a "2 second" job. Comments welcome.

I really like this idea of the Shops being closed at night! Nice to be able to hamper someone's shopping spree ;)

I don't think you necessarily need a new time card though - you could probably just house rule it and use the current time card.

Oh yeah of course. But then again you do have the day and night versions of the city art by RalphHorsley shame not to use it :) .

After play testing the closing shops is a bit OTT. Instead thinking of making it a simple "When its night player cannot leave (or enter) the City region. Also disallowing teleporting effects too would make it better..

Thoughts Ideas?

I think something can be done with the woodlands too like you must move clockwise in the woodlands during day.

We playtested it yesterday. Not all ideas from this thread but the one with closed shops at night. It was fun - at several occasions one of us went into City in hopes for a purchase only to be sorely disappointed when someone else drew an event :D

We don't want to close entire city at night though - that feels too limiting.

That's good to hear, yeah well shops closed or city is closed (cant enter or leave) the shops closed does add probs with "what happens when someones already in a shop" but a simple rule saying you must leave asap would fix that. We were testing out the shops are closed at night and the woodlands you can't turn back during day. Seems to work very well.

I had actually thought about Night rules in the City soon after the expansion came out, so I'm not surprised to see these. I too thought shops should be closed at nigh, obviously. We never agreed to this house rule but it would have worked like this: any character in a shop when it became Night, would immediately move to the space outside the shop entrance ; effectively having the shopkeeper push you out the door!

I also had some ideas about Night and Dragon tokens, but that would be a different thread, actually.

Better to say any character on a shop space and its Night at the start of their turn must leave the shop this turn.

And While its Night no character may land on a shop space

the shops closed does add probs with "what happens when someones already in a shop"
It only causes a problem if you use problematic wording. In my houserules it says "can't enter a shop at night". That's it. Can't see any problematic situation with that wording. My houserule doesn't say one can't be in a shop at night, and says nothing about leaving shops at night. Doesn't need to.

Yep that's right as well, you an add issues with staying on a space and teleporting but certainly "can't enter a shop at night" what I was really worried about was with 0berons wording if you immediately move to the space outside the shop entrance when the time card is flipped a player might be able to not only get into a shop but also leave and encounter the street space as well?
