How many Objectives is to Many?

By DAWHIPPA, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I have 4 decks running 13-14 objective sets I haven't run into any trouble yet in the sense of never getting the cards I need but I feel and more objectives may tip the scale. S poo how many Objectives do you think is too many?

You can only have 10.

The rules say a minimum of 10

You can have more than 10, but keep in mind that depending on what your deck is trying to accomplish, each objective over the minimum is adding five cards to the deck. Unless these cards are all contributing to your deck's core focus, they are diluting it, and reducing the chances of you drawing into the cards you need on any given turn. Some have experimented with 11, since the game has you seeing way more of your deck than most CCGs, but 14 sounds a bit high. I would recommend analyzing your deck and what you want it to be doing, and then trimming out the sets that are pushing that theme the least.

I'd say more than 12 is too many. But if you have a lot of card draw could experiment with pushing that.

11

10-11 appears to be the sweet spot for drawing the cards you need & your deck is built around.

That is, provided you have a few draw/card cycle mechanics in the deck as well

(Fall of the Jedi, Council of the Sith, etc.)

I never go over 11 (well I almost never even go that high), the more objectives you add the less likely you are to get the objectives you want the most.

10 is definetly the best, I recomend trying to trim your deck down. Try looking at you deck and seeing what pods help you win and what ones are more support cards, and take out extra "support" pods that may not be helping you the most.

Depends on your deck. If your main focus is getting out a few key pieces, you might have issues the more you include. But, for the sake of discussion, you are looking to get Yoda, Luke and Kyle on the table (and maybe Obi-Wan), you might be okay with more than 11 or 12, as the current card pool supports having that many.

I would caution having too many in general though, and I haven't played too many decks where more than 11 is the answer.

I think, truly, that a competitive deck will be 10 objectives. For fun, 11 or 12 can do well, and can be an absolute blast!

Think of it this way. There is ALWAYS a 'worst pod' in your deck. Even at 10 pods, you could probably trim down to 9 to make it that much more reliable. I think the 'basement' is 8 pods, but only as a thought experiment.

So look at your deck that is over 10 and ask yourself, what is the weakest pod? It may not be a weak pod, but in your deck it is! For instance, Palpatine's pod is a very strong pod. But in a TIE swarm deck...not the greatest! He would be the first to go. Just because his pod is generally great doesn't mean he belongs in every deck.

Fine the pods that are the weakest, trim to 10.
