I do not know about others, but i only sell stuff from one game when i don't see myself playing that game anymore, and that's ussually when in my opinion they are taking the wrong direction (see 6th 40k edition)
Edited by DreadStarMotivations for leaving the game
I think this year's new announcements may have left some players with either a bitter taste, or perhaps the possible cost of keeping up with FFG's Star Wars games appears to be too much.
Not only are there new waves and an Imperial huge Ship rumored to someday see the light of the sun... but now we've got a new faction to worry about storing, learning, upgrading, etc.
But that's not the only thing. We've also got Armada on the horizon, with it's base game and wave 1 launch. On top of that you also might be interested in Imperial Assault, which also launches early next year, and just announced 7 expansion sets! I don't even track the RPG or LCG, so no idea what the costs would be for those... but it can get to be overwhelming. And that's just for FFG's Star Wars games. Imagine if you play ANYTHING else.
Personally, since I've started playing X-Wing, I've met some awesome people, and had a new world opened up to me. Through these new folks I've met, I've also been introduced to a wealth of new games and game types. Deckbuilding games, miniatures games, Euro games, party games.... so much out there! I used to only play Video Games, but now I've got so much more that I want.... that I have to make cuts in some places. X-Wing is not out of my picture, but it certainly has taken a step back. I can no longer afford to buy 4 of everything, ya know what I mean?
I think the need to take a step back has needed to happen for awhile now with X wing, with some folks. As really, there is no need to buy 4 of everything. That is simply the collector in us trying to get the better of us. I get two of each Empire ( probably not the huge though it depends ) and I have a small smattering of Rebs, and will probably collect the scum. However I limit impulse spending so its all planned out. I still play 40k but those armies all done aside from a new released unit here or there but still planned, and I dabble to attack wing, planned our as well and nearing its end of buying as they slow to a crawl the factions I collect.
Leaves plenty of room then for Armada when that drops and a few comp games here and there, I usually get about 2 a year of those, all in moderation folks. Too much of anything isn't good for you.
You're all being reported for discussing this topic when clearly none of you are quitting.
Veteran groups have a way of chasing players away. They are so serious and hardcore about the game. They don't realize that they are often and subconsciously chasing players away who don't want to take the game as "seriously" as they do. I am sad to report, yet in no way surprised, that this possibility hasn't even crossed the minds of people here. The vicious cycle basically goes: 1) Game grows 2) Hardcore players establish a good old boys club that ends up being purposefully or coincidentally exclusionary 3) People leave the caustic environment and 4) The good old boys club wonders why the game is dying.
Folks, if this game dies, the environment on this board will be partly to blame. Choose your paths carefully. This game is ripe for a self destruction. I've seen it before under very similar circumstances.
How can you help? Be NICE to new players. You may know oodles more than them. But if you aren't NICE to them, they walk, and then you have no castle to be king of.
Be nice to everyone.
I am still on the fence ; I was acquiring fleets of Rebel and Empire before Epic popped up...Even picked up a Tantive and 2 transports...I closed my wallet after wave 3 ; kind of disappointed that instead of fixing certain ships ; they decided to keep putting new ones in the mix...I am going to have to wait and see where FFG goes in the next 6 mos...The game that should nott be named and the other new one are just Mehhhhh and definitely nott my cup of tea...On a side note ; this is the only game of star wars where you do nott want the principal characters ; just the side kicks lol...
Its Star Wars, why would anyone leave? ![]()
If I were ever to quit this game it would be for the same reason I quit Star Wars Miniatures: Uber competitive players who can't see the forest for the trees, are the exact opposite of fun to play against, and view new players with derision, scorn, and a threat to the LEET good old boys club. This game is worse in that regard.
Competitive players tend to be the ones in it for the long haul and playing regularly. If you're casual, the competitive players in your area may be the only ones available on a regular basis to play games with...but then you have to deal with the stigma of a demographic that values different things from you. It is disconcerting to step into that environment with less than a Worlds-caliber squad and get dirty looks. It happens. They look at you like you're crazy.
That said, I agree with an earlier poster that the TC's entire topic is kind of moot here in that you're never going to get quality data on people who have already fled...they ain't comin' back to respond.
Case in point: My buddy made top 8 at World's last year and I asked him for advice. The longer the conversation went, the more my squad swung to a "competitive" build with all the usual suspects and I ended up hating it at the end. Some people are just incapable of switching off their meta mind.
I want to argue this last point here about competitive vs. Casual. We all know this game. There are good ships and bad ships. There are great upgrade cards and crappy under powered upgrade cards. People who have been playing for a while are fine tuned to these. They are going to tell a"newbie" that their points could be better spent somewhere else. All casual gamers seem to take offense to this. If you think you can play it well and want to shake things up, run it who cares. As for building cheese which is how klecser put it when building. X wing squads, the good ones, the points Pretty much stipulate what you are going to run. Biggs walks the daggs the squad practically build itself. Rebel swarm, tie swarm, faty Han and chewie builds they are all just subtle variations of each other. Run what you want. Both sides get so worked up on others judging their squad. If you are casual, who cares? If you are competitive player prove them wrong by winning.
I urge others to stop posting replies from this point on unless you happen to be from the demographic that the OP is looking for; someone who has quit the game and sold their collection on eBay and suddenly felt the need to come back to the XWMG forums to let others know why you quit the game in the first place.
Good luck with finding that person! If someone has sold their collection to get out of the game, wouldn't it be logical to assume they've decided to stop reading or posting here? He's not likely to find many (if any).

Fair enough. I don't think any of your advice is wrong, Jim. I can completely see your rationale. You know me. You know I'm not as casual as I bill myself to be. It isn't that I don't like competition. Its that I don't like running stereotypes. Stereotypes bore me. I don't want a squad that will win, I want a squad that will be interesting to play. I will give you credit in that you didn't suggest I put PTL on anything. ![]()

I don't think the OP thought that through much.
A thread isn't really beaten into the ground until we turn to talk of breakfast sausage or bacon.
But really, is there a debate?
It's bacon!

Dude, why can't I have both?!

now i'm hungry.
On a side note to the OP's question. This is a perfect reason why FFG should moderate these forums. As a marketer, this information is golden. I find it ridiculous that these forums are not moderated, posts like this should be flagged for the mktg fellas.

No it's Snausages! ;-)
If your collection is for sale, why?
-No, it's note. When not playing they add fanciful decoration to my gaming room.
If you are close to bailing, why are you considering selling?
-N/A
Did you already quit? Why?
N/A
Are you in it for the long haul no matter what?
-I only play home games with friends. I don't play random people at my FLGS, tournaments, or in other situations that might sour my view of the game. I play 2-3 hrs./week, and the several friends who I play against play for the fun of it and enjoy thematic builds. I don't know if I'm in it for the long haul, but I'd wager I likely am. I don't play enough that I get burnt out, I don't have to deal with optimizers, min/maxers, and every other annoying stereotype out there.
The game is still fun.

...and so it begins again.
I took a look at the lots and most of them are selling their ships at mid retail you could pick up the ships for cheaper at a few different websites. I am not saying that all the lots are that way but there are also some that are way above retail too. I think its just people trying to make some money personally or buying and selling ships so that in the end they end up with a free collection.
This is what we call hitting the nail on the head.
X-wing is pretty much sold out world wide atm so that should tell you the demand is out stripping supply.
Ok, I stopped reading about 3 pages back, but as a lot of people said up to that point, this isn't the best forum to ask that question as people who have put their whole collection up on eBay most likely are not still trawling the forums about the game.
So if the OP is truly interested in the reasons people are selling up why doesn't she/he ask them through their eBay listings over the space of a month and then report back. I'm away to cook some bacon.
Perhaps more importantly, the OP may have gotten better responses if he wasn't so controlling over the type of responses he wants. This is a public forum, and people are free to post their thoughts ... whether or not the OP agrees with them, or the approach they take in formulating those responses.
If you want complete control over responses to a post you make, my suggestion would be to start your own website.
