I feel that the 5 ties should at least stand a chance... But I don't know.
Let's talk about range here. What range is best for the ties? I feel it's range 2. Range 1 is just asking to be one shot each turn.

Range 1 is the best. 4 attack dice doesn't have the best odds of 1 shotting 3 evade dice. And Han gets to add 1 dice to his attack for that turn, you get to add 5, assuming everyone is range 1.

Similarly, Range 3 is Han's preferred ground. The TIEs get +1 agility per Falcon attack, but the Falcon gets +1 agility per TIE attack.
We had a fat Han and a fat Dash go 2-2 each at our last escalation. I playtested it, and found that Han's astounding 3 attack dice a turn were simply not enough to keep me from getting eaten alive by the many, many more dice of what my opponent brought. 5 AP=15 health and 10 attack a turn. Han=13 health and 3 attack a turn.
Excuse the question, but it seems you were jousting 5 APs with a Fat Han. Were you doing that? I think that is not the way a Fat Han should be played. Of course, if the Falcon enters the joust your math is correct, but flown "correctly" (e.g. boosting away and out of arcs) the math most of the time will read: Academy Pilots than can fire: 1 or 2 => 2-4 red dice vs 3 red dice that have a good chance of hitting (Han re-rolls and gunner) plus C3PO for absorbing damage. Also, the Falcon will shoot first and hit one of the TIEs first and likely rob it of its focus. The Falcon can take several rounds of these gnat-like attacks. By the time these attacks have punctured the shields the number of TIEs should have been reduced to a more manageable size and then arc-dodging becomes very, very, very easy.
As a frequent falcon flyer, bubbles list is not even close to being a concern. Three ties? No stealth? Whatever. Target priority for mauler first, then pick one. If mauler made it to turn four/combat three it would still be down hill for the poor things. I will get the range I want every time since instead of trying to dodge you or hang out at three, I could purposely go for the bump-joust(preferably bumping mauler, switch priority to howl) and stick you with two ships shooting while I murder one and leave you with missed actions or shots after the break. I'm not trying to troll our be sarcastic here, honest. We were organizing a 60pt tourney for awhile but canceled it after play tests against lists just like these got rekt 95% of the time. It wasn't funny. And I was the one flying the falcon. I never dipped below 5 hull. It was disgusting.
Even in 100 pt games it punches so far above it's weight that I've killed entire tie swarms with Han alone. One game, My rookies got wasted and Han hadn't done diddle yet and the swarm was fresh as daisies. This is against a skilled imp player mind you. Things look grim. But my position looks good. So I literally fly in a circle, to the left if it intrests you, and as it always go goes kill one every other turn. New meaning to Solo. I have given serious thought to a single ship list that foregoes almost forty points to guarantee Han has maneuvering room and lone wolf always fires... You know I'll try that tonight after we finish the Hoth campaign. It will fail gloriously I'm hoping but at least I'll be rid of my curiosity haha
maybe I'll bat-rep it for some community lol's. Never done a bat-rep before so what the hell right?
To be fair the other list that nixed our little tourney idea was the (expletive deleted) phantom. Just ask the TO to ban golden boy or restrict him till game three when every one is back to 100+points to deal with it.
So yeah, hyperbole. Cool.
I suggest OP stack whatever squad he decides on with Outmaneuver. Fat Falcons are just one ship and without agility the are just a punching bag with an evade token.
Fly range 2 where possible and take evade actions if you are worried. Even 2 dice x3 toe fighters is potentially 6 dmg a turn. An evade token only handles 1 of them. You could have the shields down after the first round of combat and Han isn't 1 shooting a tie with an evade token at range 2 or 3.
There's too much hysteria, too much hyperbole. There are lots of ways of doing things and the dice will do what they will do. Theory crafting becomes a problem when these rolling conversations are taken more seriously than actually trying the lists. If you like what I suggested, try it. I'd love to hear about it, win or lose.
So I haven't played escalation, but I've had swarms utterly destroyed by fat Chewies. Blocking used to be a thing, but C3PO and Predator effectively negate that. I had a game in which I blocked three turns in a row getting some fairly focused fire from Obsidians and it wasn't nearly enough. With the little re-roll from Predator, it's bad. Add in gunner, and you might as well not bother. I keep hoping to figure out a way to make swarms work, but with two attack ships, every single point of damage counts, so you need to get really lucky with the dice to pull this off if the Falcon player's at all experienced.
Edited by PenguinBonaparteI agree with most of you, Fat Han is nearly unbeatable at 60 points.
What about 2 Sigma Phantoms, both with Stygium (Rebel Captive and Tactician for Stress)
Han shouldnt do more than 1 damage per Round on one of them.
LEGIT did the ~70pt Lone Wolf build VS. 7 TIE Howler Swarm! It ALMOST worked. I did take pics and the game ended in the most AWESOME way it could have, though thank god I lost lol. But it was almost a forced stalemate! Seriously! But as evidence to my earlier point, in two consecutive games under the same setup before the Big Bird went down it took out 3 Full TIEs and damaged one or two others. Admittedly my defense dice were absolute garbage except for two lucky crit blocks and Lone Wolf got like 2 successful rerolls out of some dozen triggers which sucked. Game one I didn't set up the assault missile right(I forgot I brought it
) and game two it rolled hithitcrit and he lucked out and dodged the whole thing :/ But still it had all those shots and still lost three before it won. Bubbles, out side of the Falcon I actually like your 60pt list. But I have to be real with you, against this Jabba sized Han, nothin doing man. Will post Bat-Rep thread tomorrow.
