I usually write out the WT of minion groups as a staggered amount. IOW, five stormtroopers (WT 5) would have a WT 5/10/15/20/25. When each step is exceeded, a minion is down. Seems really straightforward to me.

HD, you would be surprised who helpful including something like this in the minions section of the book would clear up the confusion.
