Where are rules to decide pairings and tiebreaking for CoCLCG tournaments ?

By chicklewis, in CoC General Discussion

Hi, fellow enthusiasts, I may just be dense, but I can't find the page which used to exist on the old server giving official ways to do pairings and tiebreaking at card game tournaments.

Could someone please give me a pointer?

If, perchance, the CoCLCG-specific page no longer is available, then maybe I could be directed to a general page for running such tournaments?

I am aware of the 'Adventure League' instruction pdf, but that is NOT what I seek.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Chick

What I do is randomly assign pairings on round 1, then for each subsequent round match the top best players together working down the list making sure that players do not play each other a second time.

Excellent question - I've been wondering what the "official" tournament rules are/will be.

Tournaments are normally run in the Swiss format. Swiss works well for many types of tournaments. Normally, a similar scheme of scoring will be used like the one used for Magic. The important part is to announce beforehand what type of scoring you will be using, and how many rounds. You're free to use any pairing system, though, but Swiss will keep players in the game for all the rounds.

Good ol' Wikipedia. Just what I needed.

THANKS, Marius, I didn't know it was called 'Swiss'.

Chick.

I wonder if there will be official rules for these things, like most other games have?

Professor, I consider it unlikely that we get "Official" rules, based on the FFG announcement that league organizers should do "Whatever they want" for league rules and the kits.

Anybody have a link to that screed? I can't find it.

Chick

I think you are right concerning the local events. I was wondering about things like at the Cons this summer - for example, Worlds. They must have some specific rules for that...

Prof, You are right, I wasn't thinking about the cons.
