Did I Miss Something?

By Verstaka, in X-Wing

I haven't picked up any news ships in a few months or looked at any news concering X-Wing since the Scum announcement but when did Wave 1 and 2 ships become so hard to find and get the massve price hike online? I was thinking about grabbing an Interceptor and Y-Wing and it seems like they just disappeared from every vendor except amazon which is selling them for $30 as of present and almost every ship from the early waves has shot up similarly. Did FFG cease production on these waves or has the demand for this game suddenly sky rocketed to the point where production isn't keeping up? Becasue even checking the FFG site almost every ship from the first two waves is listed as unavailable.

I apoligize if this is a little ranty but I would appreciate any clarity on the situation that you fine folks could give me. I was looking forward to picking up Soontir and starting my Scum collection.

This game is just that popular.

I can't find another ywing but interceptors are still everywhere around here due to aces.

HOW IS EVERYONE ENJOYING THEIR Q3 RESTOCK?????

Just the same old supply problems. We'll get a restock sometime soon.

Just a note, when I first started playing we were in the middle of a supply drought as well, I found y-wing listings on amazon of $300+. It was really insane.

Wow thanks for the swift replies everyone. My panicy reaction has settled a bit now, still amazed that online retailers have hiked the price so much if FFG is good about getting the next shipment out ASAP but I suppose Soontir can wait a few more weeks,

It's simple supply and demand, combined with retailers being annoying.

When I first started playing it was just before wave 3 came out. Didn't get any y wings for a good few months after...

Imperial aces just got a restock and Y wings are on the boat for a restock.

Also depends on what region you are playing in. Some get better restocks than others.

There's always scrum bags that will take advantage because sadly there are always fools that will pay inflated prices.

You can't find y-wings because of S&V announcement, can't get falcons because people panicked over the phantom but things will get restocked.

My local store has *tons* of Y wings, Advanced, X wings and stock TIEs they got as part of their restock with rebel aces.

I tend to buy what i can afford when its there now. I'd never previously noted a shortage but it took ages to find regular TIE fighters when i wanted a seventh.

this is a frequent issue with this game. I wouldn't pay the big price hike, as they will print more. This game sadly is not that popular where I live so there is generally plenty of everything. having said that, I tend to pre-order all of a ship that I think I am going to want. I get them up front, and then if they are hard to find later, I already have all I want. I tend to pre-order from MM, but I do not have a local store to support.

There is a B&N here in northern WVA that has plenty of anything you could want....

I've pre-ordered my ships from a FLGS as soon as I can. I've never missed a ship release and I've always had more ships than I know what to do with. It's awesome. I do feel a bit for the newer players coming in to the game now though, as we have a few local players who are desperate to pick up some of the earlier releases. That said, I have more than enough ships for them to borrow any time we play.

I will preface my statement by stating that I love this game and everything that FFG is doing with it.

However...

Their supply issues are killing them! I can not tell you the number of times I have tried to get something in, or when trying to get new people into the game tried to get them something in, and I can't because it is out of stock everywhere.

I know the game is popular, I know this stuff flies off the shelves, but it seems to me that they simply are not making enough to fill the demand. I do not know what the problem is, but FFG needs to step up their production at least two steps and have some stuff in stock. How else are you supposed to sell the game to new players? Sure, the vets all have their stuff, because we all bought it when it came out. But god help you if you want to find it after that.

Come on FFG, fix this one accept of your product, otherwise it is an amazing game!

Check Barnes and Noble and any LGS.

I don't think you can particularly blame FFG for this. We're not talking about a GW-size company here, or a company which manufactures and ships it's own product, for that matter. FFG is reliant on a supply chain.

The X-Wing miniatures are manufactured and shipped from the Far East. FFG will request stock to be manufactured, packed and shipped based both on their estimated demand, what they can afford during a particular quarter and what their suppliers reliably manage to produce and deliver. If demand outstrips what the manufacturer can handle, well, short of FFG implementing their own manufacturing process (a hugely expensive and difficult process with it's own problems and time constraints) or switching suppliers (a hugely expensive and difficult process with it's own problems and time constraints), what do you actually expect them to do?

It's absolutely fantastic for FFG that the X-Wing Miniatures game is proving so popular, it's absolutely fantastic for gamers that it's proving so popular, but it's due to that increasing popularity, the evolution of the game itself (and less-than reputable resellers taking advantage of that popularity) that people are finding certain expansions hard to come by.

Such is life, unfortunately - the best advice is don't pay through the nose for anything you want, but buy what you need when you see it become available.

I will confirm that Barnes & Noble is a good place to check out for tough to find ships. I have often found unavailable ships sitting pretty on their shelves.

Send them to us in the UK at your own expense!!!!

Could there also be a strategy to maintaining a demand? Or maybe they don't want sales of earlier ships to compete with the latest release like Rebel Aces?
