Defeating the sentinel

By rakashan, in Talisman Rules Questions

Just a quick question: I have been looking at the Sentinel, and wondering how does a character with a high Craft but a low strength get past him without the use of a spell? I mean, can he be engaged in 'psychic' combat? I thought just treating him as a 9/9 monster might be okay, but I wanted the official position on it.

rakashan,

The only way a low strength character with high craft can get past The Sentinel is if he has The Warhorse which allows you to use your Craft instead of Strength in battle.

You can cross the Storm River by other means including either buying or building a raft, have the Water Walking spell, go to the Tavern and roll (I think a 6) to cross the Storm River to The Temple, and other ways I cannot think of right now.

The Sentinel is not a 9/9 monster, he's a strength 9 creature unless someone used an effect which states otherwise.

A low strength character can however reach the middle region in numerous ways without walking across the bridge. Rolling a 6 in the Tavern is almost always available but usually some kind of teleporting stanger/place/event will help you sooner or later and the number of ways increase with every expansion.

I'd say the absolutely easiest way is visiting the Wharf if the City expansion is in play.

Pay 1 Gold. On your next turn, instead of moving normally, move to any space in the Outer or Middle Region.

Well if you really would like to fight him there are numerous other ways to temporarily gain strength. Note however that the Warhorse does not allow you to use you craft instead of strength in battle, it let's you add your craft value (the number written on your character sheet) to your strength in battle (1 if you are playing the troll, 5 if you are the warlock..).

Buy an axe and make a raft, you aren't getting past him without spells or Warhorses.
