Monster Actions

By AgentJ, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I am new to the game (actually have not got my copy yet, it is being shipped and should be here by Friday) and need help with the monster actions.I was watching a play thru and now am confused. In one of the videos they let the monster make 2 move actions, in another video they only let the monster move 1 time unless the OverLord played 'dash'. So now I am confused as to how the monsters take actions. Someone please explain to me the rules for monster actions?

Also wondering if I can you a regular d6 for the dice in this game?

Also wondering how a player can heal. The video I watched had a player heal when they rested, the other only let fatigue be removed from resting. I noticed in the one video every other round the one hero would get knocked out. Seems like there should be a way for the hero to get more health back?

One last question at this time, players can sell equipment back to the shop for half the cost so if the item cost 75gold they get 37gold back?

No offense, AgentJ, but this is basic stuff that you will learn from reading the rules. Which are available here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=176&esem=4 .

1. The monster in question was probably zombies, which can only move one time per turn.

2. No.

3. In general heroes recover fatigue from resting, but there are some abilities that modify this.

4. You round to the nearest multiple of 25.

Some points of clarification (though everything amoshias said was correct):

1. Most monsters are limited to 1 attack (unless they have the "ravage" keyword,) but most can move twice. Zombies have the "shambling" keyword, which limits them to a single move.

3. Health and stamina are two different things. Resting only takes care of fatigue recovery, not damage. Heroes only have regular access to healing though the abilities of a healer type hero if one is present- there are other game effects that can heal occasionally.

4. It's the nearest 25, rounded down, so :

25 = 0

50,75 = 25

100, 125 = 50

etc. Starting equipment is sold back for 25/item.

Thanks for the help

Descent, like many Ameritrash thematic games, is a game of exceptions. You have the basic rules laid out in the rulebook, and then you have all the heroes, monsters, items, and quests, many of which allow you to bend or break the basic rules in some specific way.

It would certainly help you understand what's happening in a video play-through if you already had a solid understanding of the basic rules from reading the PDF. If you don't want to do that, I would suggest you stick to reviews that don't go in depth about the gameplay, to avoid this sort of confusion. =)
