No PS9s for Scum an Villainy?

By berusplants, in X-Wing

One thing that has been on my mind regarding the new faction is that they appear to have no PS9 pilots (Boba is an 8, Xixor a 7). Thematically this does make sense to me as we are dealing with brigands rather than highly trained Imperial pilots or Rebel Heroes.

However recent releases have highlighted the importance of PS (Prime example being the Phantom) and I wonder if a faction with no trues aces will hold up.

So what do you think, will it make a difference? or will other factors make it a non issue? Do you lament the fact we havent had a PS9 since wave 2, or not?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I havent noticed it.

I kinda wish the PS9 pilots had been more spread out, but we don't necessarily need more of them. Especially with just about anyone PS7+ able to slap on Veteran Instincts. In a GenCon interview with some of the designers they mentioned that "lower" PS amongst Scum is going to be a defining factor, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I agree I think it matches the flavor of the faction

They do have a second PS 8 pilot (one of the 'scyk pilots) but yeah, no PS 9. Remember, the high PS now is due to the Meta game, which will likely change before/when S&V gets released

Yes, PS8 pilots will be the topguns for S&V. It think it's a great and unique way to set them apart from the other factions and very much needed with all the exlusive features they'll get (Illicit upgrades, Segnor's loop)

If the S&V is about control and debuffs it might be interesting to have a mid PS pilot (4-6) that is able to swap pilot skills with a. enemy pilot in range 1-2. I was initially thinking it would happen at the beginning of the combat phase and last until the end of that phase but it would probably more interesting to swap at the start of the activation phase and last until the start of combat.

Interesting Idea, and thematic. I think Id just prefer it as a swap in the combat phase for the easier dynamic and keep it range one or it becomes pretty powerful but its a complex one.

I was basing it off of Decoy, but you're right that range 1-2 might be a bit too powerful.

Pilot Skill 9 is considerably a rare thing in X-wing miniatures. Out of all the pilots from core set to the ones spoiled in Wave 6 there is only 4 pilots with skill 9: Wedge Antilles, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and Soontir Fel.

Now there could be a skill 9 S&V pilot in a later wave but as of now 8 is a very good pilot skill, and you can always VI it past Whisper's skill.

but a metophorical pilot skill chart.

  1. Kamikaze
  2. Rookie
  3. Cannon Fodder
  4. Green (because of Green Squadron get it)
  5. Skilled
  6. Veteran
  7. Expert
  8. Ace
  9. Legend

I see, but I think taking fire order from your opponent is a much bigger thing. If it was 1-2 it would be a smashing Whisper counter though.

10 - Veteran Ace

11 - Veteran Legend.

Last one sounds a bit **** though.

I had to look that up.

Pretty mean looking YT that. Not sure we need another one in the game for a while though.

Here's the thing- his brother, Emon Azameen, is a Firespray pilot.

Since he's there, I guarantee that the YT-2000 will be the turret ship for scum.

To be honest, I'm fine with this.

PS9 is meant to be 'the best pilot, evar!!!1!!111!' - hence native PS9 to date has only been found on Darth Vader, Wedge Antilles, Soontir Fel, and Han Solo.

In order to be base PS9, you'd have to dig up a character who is as good as those four in the Star Wars universe, and I really, really can't think of any others, in any faction, who deserve that.

That would be Mr. George Lucas, because he makes people shoot before Han.

esentially

Roark Garnett = George Lucas ;)

but then again I wasn't including modified pilot skill just the base pilot skill. VI simply allows oyu to give up your trick moves for instinctive initiative.

You know, I bet George Lucas is a f*cking terrible flight sim / flying game player.
