Han the arc-dodger

By ExpatSmuggler, in X-Wing

Not usually one to put up lists to be scrutinized, but this is sort of one of those threads (though hopefully with a bit of healthy discussion on a side topic). Let me preface this by explaining the situation: I have not played a single match in a couple of weeks because of being rather busy, but in that time (and from watching the movies) one idea has stuck with me. I want to fly the Falcon the way that Han flies the Falcon. So this is my idea:

Han + VI + Title + Engine Upgrade + Navigator + C3PO = 58 pts

This Han is designed to arc dodge like a champ, and hopefully fly the way he actually flies in the films. To pair alongside of him I really want to try a two ship build that really packs a punch. So my three wing mates that I came up with are:

1. Wedge + Predator + R2-D2 + Engine Upgrade = 40 pts

2. Corran + R2 astro + Adv. Sensors + PtL = 42 pts

3. Keyan + PtL + Adv. Sensors + Engine Upgrade + Ion Cannon = 42 pts

So my questions are: Is this at all viable? And if yes, which wing mate seems like the best option? I am really tempted to run a super Han and Wedge, almost purely as a thematic build since they are supposed to be two of the best pilots in the galaxy.

And for a side topic, is a super Han a viable arc dodger?

Or you could try Luke and R2 and really go for theme goodness :)

On that same idea of theme...you could put Lando in the Falcon with Wedge...RotJ style

I know that "Fat Han" is the current flavor of falcon build do to C3P0s ability, but if you're trying to be more like the movies, I would drop 3P0 and use Chewy instead. In the movies, Han shows nothing but disdain for 3P0 and only says "he's a friend of mine" when being threatened with a ewok spear. So if you're trying to win at all costs and don't really care about flavor, keep it as is. Otherwise break the 3P0 addiction and use Han best friend and co-pilot, the mighty Chewbacca!(who also has a pretty good ability too by the way)

As far as a the second ship goes, I would use Wedge or Corran, because you already have a 1 agility ship, and with only 2 ships your gonna be taking tons of fire.

I might be a bit off with my math, but I think that you need to use C-3PO about 4 times to have it be better damage mitigation than getting to use Chewie. Chewie also lets you get rid of a nasty crit that might impair the Falcon. If you are good at arc dodging, Chewie may be as strong a defensive choice as C-3PO. If you run up against turrets, C-3PO may be the stronger choice.

Wedge and Han are double thematics, because Wedge and Han are the 2 most famous Corellian pilots in the galaxy, and 2. Wedge and Han are the Rebellions best pilots. (also, they technically could be considered VERY distantly related because Han's daughter is married to Jag Fel, Baron Fel's son, and Baron Fel's wife is Wedges sister.)

How about ditching 3P0 for Lando (crew)?

Should be fun. I enjoy flying ORS+EU+Gunner.

How about ditching 3P0 for Lando (crew)?

Because Han already has the Falcon title (takes an action) and EU (takes an action and takes up a modification slot) meaning that there is no way to use Lando and the any of the other actions unless VI is dropped and PTL is taken. Or you can keep C-3PO who does not use an action. So that you can use EU to get out of arcs, or if unable to arc dodge take an evade.

I've flown this build a lot:

Han - VI, Navigator, Chewbacca

I've found that I either clear most or all of the arc, or I bump in which case I can choose how I will bump somewhat. I would use boost if I had it very rarely as I'd be more concerned about doing damage and using either a focus or generally a TL. Clearing arcs all of the time doesn't help if the opponent is just slaughtering the rest of your list whilst you do little to him. You need to balance your offensive actions against your defensive actions so unless all of your other ships are arc dodgin as well, then there is little point with overdoing points spent on Han to do so.

Why not run Chewbacca, Creepio, and a hull upgrade, or the new counter measures if you have a yt2400?

But for real, I like it. I think you will have a lot of fun. I keep harping on this, but x-wing isn't the nfl, and you can win doing a lot more than the internet would have you believe. So try out the navigator+engine, it's a great combination that opens up a lot of options.

As far as wingmen go, I would run Keyan, but switch out the engine upgrade and ion cannon for a heavy laser cannon. You have him creep up slowly, while Han shoots down the field, and the enemy will have to focus on one ship, and let the other ship shoot at them without taking any return fire.

Because Navigator on VI Han is amazing. Use plenty of gentle and straight maneuvers and you can generally position yourself suitably relative to the enemy's movements. As an example there's three TIE's coming towards you. If they fly forwards, you can shift to a three or four straight and land behind them to shoot one of them at range one with no return fire. If they K turn, you can change to a straight one and bump them, and shoot one that you don't bump or something else instead. If they do a mixture, you take the best option and leave the other two with no shots.

Also Farlander dies REALLY fast if he's the only target. He's a strong offensive option, but he's no harder to kill than a regular B-Wing generally.

Vi --> expert handling! would help dodge more arcs.
