Rebel vs Rebel Question

By Rottenreason, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Who attacks first at the start of combat phase?

I am using

Rookie pilot PS 2

My opponent is using

Bandit Squadron PS2

Whoever has initiative. The player with fewer points in their squad gets initiative. If they are equal, initiative is generally determined by a coin flip or other criteria. A common way to do it is to have one person call hits or misses when the other player is rolling an attack die. Focus and Miss are considered misses and Hits and Crits are considered hits. Each are 50% likely.

With the last update to the tournament rules it became whoever has the fewest point chooses who has initiative, not that they automatically must take it.

lowest points gets to choose initiative. If points are equal then it is a roll off or coin flip to see who will choose. (roll one attack dice and call: blanks + focus = tails; hits and crits = heads)

However I have a question, in other tournaments and leauges do they still have imperial player goes first in a point tie or have they all moved to the roll off? (I think everything is moving to roll off especially with the new S&V faction coming out)

I don't think they've ever used the "Imperial gets initiative" rule in tournaments. Half the matches are between the same faction anyway, so it wouldn't be practical.

I've never been to a tournament though, so I'm just guessing.

The tournament rules have allways instructed us to resolv initiative by roll off if points are equal. The only thing that has changed in that regard is the the winner of the roll off now gets to chose if he wants initiative or not.

Actually the tournament rules specify a coin toss, not a roll off. Roll offs for initiative have never been a part of the official tournament rules, although they are commonly used.

My mistake then. Not that it maters much which perticular method of randomization is prescribed (or used) ;)

even though a roll of using blank&focus/hits&critical has the same odds.

Then again rulebook also still says Imperial which has no use.

Anyways I consider anything that produces a 50%/50% fair chance would be acceptable.

Going by basic rules:

If it's a set scenario with predefined lists, the Imperial player has initiative.

If they're custom lists with different values, the cheaper one has initiative.

If they're custom lists with the same value, the Imperial player has initiative.

The basic rules don't say what to do if both players have the same faction and point total.

Going by tournament rules:

If they're custom lists with different values, the cheaper one CHOOSES who has initiative.

If they're custom lists with the same value, pick one player by coin toss. That player CHOOSES who has initiative.
