Personally, I gotta say I actually prefer FFG's version here. It's like a sort of grimdark humour when you have a bunch of Imperials wondering just
how
a society like the Tau Empire can work without people getting told what to do at gunpoint - meaning, like the Imperium of Man. I mean, what else other than mind control could it
possibly
be! "Idealism"? Phhht, please! Totally unrealistic!
The Tau while they seem to be idealistic are not. They would happily send lesser men and women to their deaths, slaughter millions and brainwash civilians all for the greater good. Simply, Tau could be described as Nazis for the fact that every death they cause, every planet they burn and every civilian they decide troublesome are all for the greater good. While they seem not be rascists, I wonder at that. Diplomacy is usually first on their mind but wasn't it with Hitler's too during the time he took over Austria, Checzlovakia and other places.
