Order of resolve and Porkins

By Narcoleptic, in X-Wing

After reading the discussion about what order Jake Farrell would perform his actions together with PtL I began to wonder about Porkins with R5-D8. Since the FAQ states that you may resolve effects occurring simultaneously in whichever order you like, then would it be possible for Porkins to take PtL and use it in the following manner:

- Take first action

- Activate PtL where I shall perform an action and take a stress token

- Take stress token first

- Disregard stress token Porkins style

- Take second action which can be R5-D8 if I roll poorly on the damage roll, or TL/Focus depending on what I took first

As far as I know it should be possible as you take the 2nd action and stress at the same time. Then you can see the outcome of the PtL stress and decide if you want to repair the potential damage or can sit back and take another action.

The stress token is taken after the second action, not during. The card is quite clear about that.

That's true. Otherwise I guess it'd be something like "...you may receive 1 stress token and perform one action...".

Nevermind this topic then, just me not reading the cards. ^^;

However, a possible option for Mr Porkins with PtL and R5-D8 is:

Turn 1

Take first action

Activate PtL
Take second action

Take Stress token

Remove Stress token - roll for damage - possibly take face-down damage card

Turn 2

IF damage was taken on previous turn, use R5-D8 to attempt to remove face-down damage card

OR

IF no damage was taken - take a different first action (TL/Focus or Boost if EU equipped)

THEN

Activate PtL

Take second action

Take Stress token

Remove Stress token

Repeat as needed

R5-D8 can't be your second action with PtL. PtL says that your second action must be on your pilot's action bar.

This^

But, also giving him Experimental Interface can solve this problem. Pricey, but have seen it work well in a 35 point furball. Remove stress from your first two actions, if you take damage, use EI to use R5D8, and it works, remove the stress again and hope for the best.

If only Porkins either had higher PS for the meta or had a ship with easier movement options... otherwise I'd be more compelled to field him. Maybe EI, R5-D8 and Opportunist? He'd work well with Janson I think, and they would fly well together in formation.

PTL Only lets you perform actions on your action bar, not "Action cards" like EPT's and such unless it states "Add X Action to your action bar" or "Your action bar gains X" Like Engine Upgrade or Falcon Title.
