Stayin' Alive!

By darthlurker, in X-Wing

Hello everyone, I was thinking about the best way to keep Biggs alive for as long as possible and in doing so came up with the following build, which I've dubbed stayin' alive:

100 points

Biggs + R2-F2 (28)

Cracken + VI (20)

Garven (26)

Roark + Ion Turret + Jan (26)

The idea is for Biggs' action to get an extra evade die from the droid, Garven and Cracken shoot first and second (Garven with Roark's help) and they give Biggs a free focus action and focus token, one of which can be turned into an evade by Jan. As with any Biggs build, the longer he's kept alive the better and I think that he could survive quite the onslaught with this kind of support.

The main problem I foresee will be from high-PS arc-dodgers, though Roark helps mitigate this somewhat. The firepower could also be better as Biggs represents a third of the total damage that can be dealt each turn, but there isn't much room to move things around. I could swap Roark for a blue squad with Jan (25 points) but I dislike flying B-Wings without advanced sensors.

So resident X-Wing experts, what do you think about the list?

Roark would be my primary target initially, and I'd crash your group with blocking attempts to scatter them quickly. With the different dials between the HWK and the X-Wing, it could be a challenge keeping them grouped at Range 1 without your moves being pretty much telegraphed each turn. YMMV.

Needs more Bee Gee's.

got that **** song stuck in my head now..

looks like a fun list..

True, but I find that Biggs is most effective when something tasty comes out from under his meat shield for a turn to take a few hits and then gets back under. It's risky but when it happens it's really effective.

I tested the list last night and my opponent (flying Rexler w/predator, Howlrunner w/determination and 3 obsidians) caused a pileup with the mini-swarm on the third combat turn, Biggs had been weathered down to one shield (heh) but the swarm was still completely intact. At that point the only real damage done was to Rexler who was ionized over and over again and ended up only getting two shots in the whole match, and the turn he died was the turn the TIEs focus-fired and wiped out Roark. I separated him from the rest of the ships to keep on ionizing Rexler. If I hadn't had caught the defender early I don't know how it would have gone, but as it happened I was able to finish with half of the list intact. This requires more play-testing as I've never had a list so dependent on everyone getting their actions.

As I mentioned previously you can swap Roark for a B-Wing but I'm afraid that the G-Wing won't be out until wave 7 =P.

looks like a fun list..

I don't usually like formation flying (or Biggs in general) and try to have at least one high-PS ship with boost and/or barrel roll, but I like this list's synergetic action economy as the extra tokens and actions can be switched around to fit the situation.
