Are Upgrade Sleeves Like Unicorns?

By paladin72, in X-Wing

Is anyone else having trouble finding the card sleeves for upgrade cards?

I understand why some of the ships are hard to find but I would think these would be easy to get.

Nope. Amazon have millions of the things. USA size game cards is what you're looking for. I have never had a problem getting them. Hope that helps.

I bought like 200 of them (4 packs) on amazon around 6 months ago, still haven't run out of those.

Before that I found them a bit hard to find in the local game stores though.

As a smallish business FFG has a but of trouble with their supply chain on really popular items.

I really do recommend the FFG brand ones though. Very durable, nice heavy plastic.

Nope. MY FLGS always has plenty, and Amazon + MM do too

Well I did find 8 on Amazon just now. 5 bucks a pack is a little steep though. Miniature Market, CoolStuff, eBay and my LGS are all out of stock.

I'd like to find a three ring binder sheet for holding USA size cards

Right now I just have my upgrade cards sideways double stacked in standard baseball card size three ring sheets

Yeah I just bought an Ultra Pro Pro Binder for my cards. I doubled up on the upgrade cards and the cloth backing on the pages seem to hold them in place fairly well. It's the best thing I have found so far.

I have a fair sized collection and it held all of my pilot and upgrade cards with room to grow.

I wish they were unicorns. Then I'd have several packages of unicorns.

Sometimes sites like CSI will be short, even Amazon occasionally, but I've always found them when I needed. I bought an extra pack from my FLGS when I saw them for future. When you find them buy an extra pack!

I bought several when I went to the May the 4th be with you weekend last year at the FFG store. After Rebel Aces I don't have but a few left. At that time they were out of stock at most places also.

I don't understand why they are not readily available though. The $5 per pack on Amazon is double retail. With shipping on top of that it's pretty pricey.

I'm also having trouble finding them at the two FLGSs that I frequent. We're talking about the package with the yellow header, right?

Mayday games and Fantasy Flight both make them in that size, Mayday call them Mini sleeves. As much as I like Fantasy Flight products, the Mayday games sleeves fit tighter. Less over lap, but Mayday have more bad sleeves, but we are talking about 1 out of a 1000.

I've had no trouble finding either brand at my various local game stores, though game shops and card shops just don't carry the mini sleeves cause they don't have too big a demand for them. You are better off at a game store that sells lots of board games and such.

Of course I've never had trouble special ordering through my local game store either, ask them. Sometimes they actually have discounts if you pre-pay and such.

I may go back to a pack of Maydays. They're thinner too, which makes it easier to pack up tightly. However, I do prefer the thick feel of the FFG sleeves.

The FFG ones keep selling out so i bought two boxes of them from nzgameshop.co.nz

Now I have HEAPS

I may even have enough to leave up my Talisman cards........

Yes they are. Although my LGS always seems to have them

i bought some unicorns today.

and a nice orange rnage ruler with the +1 red (R1) and +1 green (R3) reminder icon so that its easier to teach noobs.

Dem noobs.

Also got a fifth tie fighter to go with my snazzy Phantom and 4 ties. Also for teaching dem noobs.

I tried doubling mine up in standard sheets, but I found they just kept slipping behind each other or right out of the sheets altogether. I didn't try the cloth backing though. Did you actually insert pieces of clothe, or do your sheets have cloth backs?

I would pay a premium for upgrade card sized binder sheets.

Yeah, they are a bit of a bugger to get hold of at times.

Agree regarding wanting a Pro Binder for upgrade cards. Mine don't slip about too much, but it's not ideal.

The Pro Binders have a black cloth like material between the front and back of a page. It's not smooth cloth it has texture. It seems to hold the sleeved cards in place better than the clear plastic. It also has side load pages so if cards do slip they will not fall out the top.

It's not perfect by any means but it is the best I have found.

I bought sheets of business card holders for a 3 ring binder. There's plenty of space around the edges of the upgrade cards, but with the plastic sleeves there is enough surface contact that they don't slide out.

You should be able to pick them up from any office supply store.

I had this problem before. They are out of stock on FFG shop page and show on the boat. I will need another pack or two when wave 5 hits, so I hope they are stocked up again soon.
