Scratch that, i've just looked its a really poor cast/mould.
You could 3D scan an FFG one and 3D print your own at a smaller scale!
You blasted kids with yer VCR's and yer walkmans, we old folk cant work that new fangled junk!

i could but like i say I'm not *that* bothered.
I work largely from home as the assistant editor of a magazine. Every now and then you'll see a period on these forums when I'm really prolific. This is because I've just sent an issue to print and I've got bugger all to do then talk about my fave game on these forums ![]()
Hence bringing this up as something to chat about. I'd not seen it brought up before, clearly it has been.
Personally i don't mind discussing things that have been previously discussed the only time it annoys me is then someone starts up a thread like '3po is broken' when there are already two identical threads on the front page.
I've not found the 'search' function on here particularly user friendly but then in fairness I didn't try it this time because the nature of the game means the word/letter 'a' and 'wing' crop up next to each other with alarming frequency ![]()
Why are we debating this again? Kinda of like the HWK-290 on Wookiepedia. LFL said it's my design and I own the rights and this is the size. And WEG fanboys said 'nuh uh'. So if your a fan of WEG it is whatever size you want.
LFL says the size is (as posted above)
X-Wing - 12.5m @ 1/270 4.62cm
A-Wing - 9.6m @ 1/270 3.55cm
Y-Wing - 16m @ 1/270 5.92cm
If LFL said that if Luke was 1m tall then maybe he wasn't human as we know them... haha
LFL owns the rights and I think it's cool that the game is in scale. Regardless of 'optics' of my eyes watching a movies.
In fact that the director often used models of varying scales to fit the scene he had in mind. Or that one week a button on star-trek did this and next week it did something else...
I'm happy that FFG went to all this work. If LFL says it's right then that's good enough for me.
P.S. How is repeating 'my eyes are a better measuring instrument than the designer' different than repeating 'the designer say's the dimensions are'? Yes I know this isn't a direct quote but an attempt to paraphrase.
P.P.S. Yeah, I thought the lying statement was over the top. FFG went to great lengths to give a game with a consistent scale. They neither lied nor are inept. Shameful...
P.P.S. By the cockpit window argument isn't the Slave-1 really over sized? ![]()
Game on.... and fly casual

You designed the HWK-290?! Cool.

Even if you had, you'd of found a 9 or so month old discussion on it.
Now here's something I ran across that I found interesting to consider. A picture of Luke next to his X-Wing on Dagobah the next is a picture of the new X-Wing in Eps 7.
You'll see they're clearly not the same size. I know that the Eps 7 one is perhaps not the same model, but it's also possible that LFL is actually paying attention to the correct size now and Lucas wasn't when he did ESB...

Walkmans? I've only just got to grips with the 'ghetto blaster' ![]()
This is my portable sound system...
Totally portable at a mere 35LB!

They look around the same size to me - Luke and JJ both come up to around the seam.

p.s. common sense, one is clearly obvious, the other is going 'but the paperwork says this'
pp.s. nothing to do with me
pps yeah the slave 1 changes in layout/size over time as well. Some models have it as a one man cockpit, others it a two level bridge, going by the prequel films its huge in there... again LFL inconsistency.
Totally portable at a mere 35LB!
Reminds me of a "portable computer" I saw back in High School... a Apple IIe, basically the normal box for one with a 6 inch screen attached to it.

I was under the impression he was extracting the urine by deliberately misreading that.

My father once saw the new 'payroll computer' in the 60s for a local food factory (elkes biscuits), it was about the size of a small house....![]()

Oh darn and for a moment I thought I had the rights and was going to make a bundle ![]()
Mazz, you meant it sarcastically, right? No I didn't design it but it would be fun to work for a game company I think...
That yellow ladder always confused me. I totally get how it works when you've got ground crew but how (if you're not going to use the force) do you put it away or get it in place when you're in the cockpit?
That episode 7 is not an xwing
Then what is it?
They look around the same size to me - Luke and JJ both come up to around the seam.
Doesn't look that way to me. The Eps7 looks a good bit smaller to me.
I thought they had said it was an xwing, rumours were abound it was the 'film' version of a Z95 and i'm sure i read an official release that said 'no its the new xwing'

I think LFL inconsistency is the very point of much of this discussion. Right now the A-Wing is the size as listed by LFL. There may have been inconsistencies or there may have been versions of the A-Wing not shown. Or the model we use in the game is really the two person figure.
For me, as I said, I like that FFG and LFL says all of my standard and large figures are the same scale. I was hoping for a same scale CR-90 and GR-45 but alas... that was not to be. But the figures are awesome ![]()
'no its the new xwing'
It is, that's kinda the point I was making. It may not be the T-65 Incom, it may be the T-66 Incom or T-65g incom. But it is very much a X-Wing fighter.
Yeah i agree with you i was saying to the other chap that it was defintiely the new xwing, just he split intake version.
Someone that is a wiz at math could probably take the measurements of R2-D2, since R2 fits into the X-Wing and Y-Wing droid socket, and figure out the correct size and scales for all of the fighters.

Probably some form of XJ wing or StealthX?
Probably some form of XJ wing or StealthX?
Hard to say, but it's a lot closer to what McQuarrie's concept art looked like.
Or JJ is just doing what he did with star trek and changing stuff for the sake of changing it.

some one did some scale working with an A wing. Big thing on boardgames geek about it. the guys conclusion was that the a wing in 'xwing' is actually about 1:100
