A wings too big or Y wings too small?
I think the relative scale of all those ships varied from shot to shot depending on what sort of action they were trying to shoot.
FFG went off the scale of the production models, so it's accurate to that. Sadly, the scale in the movies was a bit ... squidgy.
I don't know about TWICE, but yes, considering the cockpit size, the A-wing does seem too big. That Y-wing is supposed to fit 2 people? Meanwhile, I can imagine the A-wing pilot relaxing in the jacuzzi behind his chair.
According to Wookiepedia, the Awing is a little more than half the length of the Y-wing.
I don't know if i'd want my A-wing mini to be smaller, though.
EDIT. If you want to see a horrible scale, check out the Carrack-class cruiser on Wookiepedia. Look at that windshield on a 350-meter ship. and that must be the biggest Comm Dish EVER!
Edited by Awing Test PilotWell in that pic, the A wing right next to a Y wing... the entire A wing is only marginally bigger than the cockpit of the Y wing.
The FFG model is a lot bigger than that.
The a-wings too big but I suppose theirs a limit on how small you can make something and get a decent paint job.
Yeah the y-wing is a little slim for being a lumbering bomber. It fits perfectly in my plano box, but I would have prefered it to be a little heftier when compared to the other ships
I love Y wings and was a bit dissapointed when i got mine. I thought they were a little too 'squashed' in the cockpit area. I deliberately repainted mine with more contrast to make them look a little larger.
Judging by that picture the A-wing is about the length of the Y-wing with The engines cut off. I don't have my models to hand so I don't know if it right or not. If the A-wing is to big I'm not gunna complain. If it was any smaller it would be laughably over priced.
Yeah, the A-wing should be smaller it seems. Side note: that picture is inverted (Millenium Falcon cockpit on the wrong side).
That shot has some serious perspective going on. The A-wings are in the distance. Compare the A-wings to the X-wing that are the same distance from the camera, then use the x-wing and a point of reference for comparing with the Y-Wing and the A-wing.
FFG has come out and told us that they have paid very close attention to scale. They even had access to Lucas's original models. That being said, A-wings and Y-wings are really "real" so there is the possibility for inconsistency is their size across. Meaning that no matter how FFG makes their models they might not be "right" for some information published about the Star Wars Universe.

if it were made to scale i'd just expect them to moderate the price or sell them two to a box.
I mean the decimator is more expensive than most large ships to reflect the size

Everyone to busy looking at the Y-wing and the A-wing that no one else noticed. Good spot.
Hrathen, i'm comparing the Y wing and A wing that are *right next to each other* ![]()
Not the ones behind them, i'm aware of the concept of perspective.
In that picture does the A-wing that next to the Y-wing look like its been dumped? It's listing. Someone's just gone "sod it, It's staying there I'll deal with it later". Lazy Tycho.
Ah that will be because the owner took one of my suggested 'degrade' cards... 'landing gear damage' ![]()
or 'ewok refit' as its technically known.
That picture was painted and used no models. The artist wasn't given any instructions on the size of things, so they just painted what seemed to look good. That includes things like getting the cockpit of the Falcon on the wrong side.
FFG on the other hand used the production models that Lucas used in filming the movies to get the proper scale for the game.
That means FFG models are the most accurate scale of any thing produced to date that we have access to.
Are you *sure* thats painted and not models against a matte painted background?
I only ask as i've seen B wings 'backwards' in flipped promo pics from ROTJ in the 80s and they were clearly models against a painted background.
I'm watching ROTJ right now and the A wings are tiny.... at one point one flies along side a B wing and admittedly its a brief shot but its less than half the size of the B wing

Look at how compact it is around the cockpit.

This.
People have been going around on this pretty consistently. The short version is the scale varies pretty dramatically from source to source even within the movie - that same hangar, when seen from inside the cockpit, shows a very different size for the A-wing. In-flight model shots don't seem to match the size of the cockpit when you get the in-cockpit shots.
There really isn't a "right" answer here.

Yes I am sure, because this debate has happened about 15 times now on these boards.
The artist Michael Pangrazio who painted that has come out and said at one point that he had no reference material when he painted it.
Again, FFG had full access to all the models ILM used when making the movies, and they based the models in the game off of that. So the A-Wing is the correct scale.

****. That picture makes it look like a 6' tall man would be 2/3 the length of the ship. I think I have seen bumper cars that are bigger. ![]()

Yeah I'm not sure how anyone could actually fit in that ship. Unless it was like the Flintstones, and was powered by foot power... ![]()
Looking at that pic of an a wing...
Precisely... so i find it hard to believe the FFG model is the 'correct scale'
