Disappointed...

Hail Hydra!

Let's not be insulting. The "conversation" essentially ended here:

I have not played a single game.

The game has exceeded my expectations; the more games I play, the more I appreciate the lightweight, easily understood rules wrapped around a tough decision making game that keeps both players engaged as focus shifts back and forth between rounds.

On top of it all, it's speedy to play through when you know the rules - I play with a few guys at work once the day is over and we can get three games of this in when we'd only be halfway through the first if we were doing Game of Thrones!

The art is excellent, very 40k - and generally of a very high quality. I can't think of a single 'dud' art card at all in the entire core set. My only issue with it is the relative shallowness of the card pool but that will change as time goes on and can't even really be considered a fault.

I appreciate the complex decision making process and the need for focus Conquest embraces...This is a very fun game, with or without the 40K genre attached to it.

The 40K universe just makes it that much more kick ass.

Agreed, Conquest by far has shattered any expectation I had going in, once you recognize its deep intricacies you really begin to appreciate the hard work FFG has put into this game.

Very simple to play, but now starting to pick up on the nuances (such as command struggles at every planet, but only battles at First planet / warlords - it's VERY interesting and a lot more depth than I first thought.

Yeah, you and your opponent having the ability to create a battle past the first is a big thing when you figure your Warlord can be used as your emissary of DOOM (read battle ability errand boy) and not just foolishly bum rush the first planet. :)

The only thing I can even think about complaining about with this game is the freakin small box. Why they went with this style box, when all the others are perfect for card storage, is beyond me. Other than that, this game has met or exceeded all expectations for me.

I prefer the small box. Less waste to recycle. Never use them for card storage. They're just for show. I use binders.

Gunny, this was probably done to allow for more stock on shelves, and to allow less shuffling of product to fit in your FLGS. :)

I wasn't expecting anything massivley 'innovative ' and new . It's cards and the effects that units have . And as we all know battle packs and expansions open up many new combos and delicious interactions we are looking for . Apart from Line of Sight , range and dice rolls you cant make cards do much more , and what these cards do they do very well .

Finally got my copy today (along with Relic presented by friends) and have to admit that some cards are too dark indeed. This is especially visible while comparing the cards which share common art in the two games.

I have no issues with any of the card art, I have compared them to their sources and they all match up fairly well (a lot of art is from the codexes or BL books.) So really to me, any opinion of too dark seems to stem from unfamiliarity with the grimdark art style. :/

The one issue i have with the cards is "Colliseum Fighters" where it is hard to see where some of the figures heads are, but that is because of the individual artwork where you have dark burgundy helmets/facemasks surrounded by black hair on a dark background.

But i'll admit i'm usualy not looking at their heads... :)

I have not played a single game. That is not the point here though. If the art is too dark, which is why i am disappointed, it does not matter if i have never played a game of it. This is a Card game first and foremost. If the card is poorly printed, it detracts from the overall enjoyment of the game.

You should check out the bad card screens used for Empire vs Rebellion the cold war reprint.

You'd complain less.
