YT-1300 not named Fat Han!

By JESIV, in X-Wing

Or chubby Han, chunky Han, slightly obese Han, fluffy Han etc...

I decided I wanted to fly a YT-1300, but without Han. This is what I came up with.

YT-1300 - 52

Lando - 44

Millennium Falcon - 1

Push The Limit - 3

Nien Nunb - 1

Weapons Engineer - 3

HWK-290 - 35

Jan Ors - 25

Blaster Turret - 4

Recon Specialist - 3

Moldy Crow - 3

Z-95 - Tala Squad - 13

I played this last night and had a blast with it. The Z-95 got out front and made itself a sacrificial lamb allowing Jan and Lando to form up. I was lucky to drop an opposing Biggs in the first round and held out the next few rounds before taking a B-wing and an X-wing out.

The goal for me is fun and variety and up until this point I'd never flown a 1300 or a Z-95 so that was enough.

I am curious to know what the community at large thinks of the build, what changes would you make to the list.

Also, if your challenge was to fly a 1300 and NOT use Han, would would you come up with?

It's not terrible, but it doesn't seem to have much focus. Why put a weapons engineer on a ship that has no actions to target lock with (you should be doing focus + evade every turn). Why give up the Falcon's insane maneuverability to pass free actions to mediocre support ships? It's pretty obvious that your purpose here was "make a Falcon list that isn't a normal Falcon list" without much of a reason WHY you were doing that.

Chewbacca with predator, Luke, C-3P0, Falcon title. Evade every turn, "focus" and "target lock" on offense without spending any actions. Essentially you give up fat Han's PS for (near) immunity to crits.

Don't know why you would want Moldy Crow + Recon if you are not using Kyle Katan (Pilot). If you have aces you could switch Recon for Kyle Katan (crew) and have almost the same effect.

Nice combination with Nein Nunb and PTL and Lando. It looks like a good Falcon that doesn't need 3PO.

The thought behind Weapons Engineer was to make sure I had a TL on the ship I was shooting (I'm notorious for locking on to the wrong ship), and to make sure I made that attack count. In this instance it did help but I do see your point about Focus + evade instead. As to WHY I wanted to have a non 'normal' Falcon list, it was simply to see if it could be done. I wanted an original Falcon build that wasn't cookie cutter. In fairness I gave up the Falcon's speed not to pass actions, but to get the extra dice on attack from Jan.

Interesting. What would you put with this to round out the 100 points?

I do appreciate the time for the reply. Thanks.

I did the Moldy Crow/Recon thing for the focus factory. I wanted to be sure the Blaster Turret was always fueled and hopefully to help Jan hit when she attacked and to dodge the return fire. I was worried about missing actions b/c jan was stressed so I thought I'd 'store' focus actions for those turns she couldn't clear stress b/c she was trying to keep up with the Falcon...I think I ended the game with around 6 focus tokens on her, perhaps that was overkill :). I've not picked up Aces yet, but I will look into this (off-hand I'm not sure what Kyle does but I can look it up).

I did like the Nein/PTL/Lando combo. I'm sure I would use it again down the road.

Thank you for the reply.

But as far as the Moldy Crow + Recon Spec combo, there are a lot of benefits when running a blaster turret, at least from the times I've used it.

- Recon + Moldy crow allows you to easily stack TL + F shots (or boost) once you have a bank of focus tokens (including the cost to use the Turret).

- Also allows you to take red manuevers without worrying about not shooting your blaster turret.

- Also allows you to use the blaster turret when you are blocked.

- Also allows you to use a Focus on offense and defense.

- As far as I can tell, Recon + Moldy Crow is almost a necessity when running Blaster Turret. Lets the HWK dogfight much better (with engine) and removes some of the biggest weaknesses of that Turret upgrade.

- With that combo, If you spend a couple rounds building up a focus bank, the HWK will become quite the offensive threat, at the cost of costing 3 more pts (assuming you'd automatically take Recon Spec with Blaster Turret).

There are just SO many good reasons to run the combo when running Blaster Turret. Though, with Outrider Dash coming out, we must consider how effective the Blaster Turret is when it is on a half as defensive ship, but that's another discussion.

Back to the original post.

Nice squad idea. Id probably swap in C3P0 for Weapon's Engineer if you have it, since that card adds SO much to the Falcon's survivability. Id also drop the Tala to a bandit and put VI on Jan Ors for that PS 10 goodness. The PS 10 will likely add more to the list than a PS 4.

Kyle gives a focus every time you get rid of a stress. If you are using Jan's ability every round, taking a green move, and using your action to get a focus, you'll end up with two focuses per turn. The advantage to Recon + Moldy Crow is that you can have focuses banked and not be stuck doing a green maneuver every turn.
