I know this may be too early to start this discussion, but I was wondering what people thought would be in the next saga expansion. So far, all the saga expansions have been very good at providing almost a deck in a box or something close (i.e. first Hobbits, now Gandalf). So I was wondering what people thought would be included in the next saga. Will we see Gimli and Legolas heroes in a new incarnation to go with the Fellowship Aragorn to create a more functional 'Three Hunters' deck? What about Rohan? What are people's ideas. This is the expansion I am most looking forward to...can't wait for Helm's Deep!
Treason of Saruman Predictions
I'm too focused on working with new / spoiled cards to be spending my time pondering what may be appearing in the "distant" future.
Edited by joezim007Some ents, I guess. Maybe Merry'n'Pippin allies. Or even new hero incarnations.
4 new heroes: Legolas, Gimli, Merry, Pippin. Given the current sphere spread, Legolas, Gimli and Merry cannot be Tactics again, so if this happens - Pippin is gonna be Tactics.
Edited by MyNeighbourTrololoI think they'll be saving tactics Pippin and another Merry for the first ROTK saga, you know, when Pippin becomes a guard of the Citadel and Merry squire of the Mark. Maybe they'll even be allies, either in that one or in this one. I think that in Treason of Isengard we'll get new hero versions of Gimli and Legolas, and hopefully Theoden as well.
My main question is how will they deal with the company splitting and Aragorn's chase across Rohan to rescue Merry and Pippin in the first quest. Imagine I was using them in my deck for the Fellowship sagas... now they will get captured and can't use them? Or will the orcs rather capture 2 random heroes to fill the role, not restricted to the hobbits? But if that happens, it doesn't make sense since they only captured them because they were hobbits and thought they had the Ring. I really want to know how they will work that part out, as well as the new Fellowship Aragorn replacng whatever Aragorn hero you could've been using up until that point... Caleb said it fit "very naturally"... but I can't imagine how would that be. Very curious, all in all.
I feel pretty confident that we'll see Helm's Deep. Less confident in the Ents siege of Isengard, but I think we'll get Treebeard in there somehow.
Will the players get to bring back a hero lost in the battle against the Balrog? I think there has to be something like that.
Treebeard hero pl0x FFG ![]()
Anyways, currently, end of the second lotr saga box reads that each players gets one of their heroes captures, so thats who's gonna fill the Merry's and Pippin role. Would be funny to get Grima captured.
Wondering what's after they finish covering the LotR with saga expansions. I hope they won't abandon the Saga Line
(does anyone know whether FFG has rights over the whole Tolkien opus, or just on Third Age stuff?)

Their rights only cover what's in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This does include the appendices though, so we could technically get some Saga stuff from there, like the Northern battles of the War of the Ring. We could even get Second Age stuff (Numenor, etc.), but this obviously would be a weird fit with the rest of the card pool.

Would absolutely love if the game did this. I don't think that either the battle of dale or the assaults on Lothlorien and subsequent destruction of Dol Guldur have ever been portrayed in any game or movie or anything really. There is even also a battle between Thranduil and his people and forces sent by Dol Guldur as well. Second age would be a bit harder....
Maybe in future show up some deluxe expansion set in Mirkwood ( supporting Silvan characters (Thranduil Hero!) and Dale, telling story about the battle of Dale, assault of Lothorien, battle in Mirkwood and destruction of Dol Guldur.
It should be cool, if we can made deck on King Dain and King Brand (some new version) on Dwarfs and Men of Dale (next fraction to support), and fight in battle against Easterlings (we fight with them before only in Massing At Osgiliath, so designers can made some new mechanics with them).

I totally second this. It'd be nice to have saga exp covering collateral stories as well.
(and thanks Raven for covering my question about rights)
I don't how they'd do it. I don't know if they would use an encounter card or an objective ally or what but one of my favorite scenes is when Saruman (if I remember correctly) appears before Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli on the outer edge of Fangorn Forest. It's one of my favorite scenes in the whole trilogy and one of the more creepy scenes in general. I don't need it to be a major part of any of the quests in the box, but it'd be awesome to see it represented somehow.
my 2 cents
When considering the next saga expansion, knowing that Aragorn is the fellowship hero helps lead us to the potential quests:
Consider, what did Aragorn do in The Two Towers?
Hunted Uruk-Hai
Bumped into Eomer
Wandered into Fangorn and found Gandalf
Rode to Edoras and confronted Théoden
Helm's Deep
Rode to Isengard and confronted Saruman
So, while great things are happening in The Two Towers, Aragorn is really just along for the ride through most of it.
- Eomer and co. kill the Uruk-hai
- Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and Aragron quickly ride to Edoras with no issues
- Gandalf saves Théoden
- Treebeard and co. attack Isengard
- Erkenbrand and co. (and Huorns) save Helm's Deep
- Gandalf confronts Sarumon
With that said, Helm's Deep is an obvious choice for a quest (heck it's on the box art). But after that I'm a little perplexed. I'm sure the designers nailed it, but I don't see any clear-cut quests that involved Aragorn as key element. Good thing I didn't design this expansion!
- Maybe Eomer's actions are not scripted and the players will have a chance to catch up with the Uruk-hai?

If you want to just condense all of the two towers in relation to what aragorn does then the three quests could simply be... tracking the uruk-hai (hence finding eomer and maybe even as far as finding gandalf the white), getting theoden to dismiss saruman and the journey to helm's deep, and then the battle of helm's deep.
I think those could be some interesting quests, though I'd be afraid of the tracking of the uruk-hai and the journey to helm's deep potentially feeling too similar. Then again, they could make them very different. But that's what I see if they go 3 quests:
-Track Uruk-Hai and get to Gandalf
-Save Theoden/Journey to helm's deep
-Helm's Deep
Then maybe they'll release another saga box alongside it covering Merry and Pippins adventures. I'm sure they'd keep Frodo and Sam stuff separate but who knows.
Hmmm.
I'd say 4 new playable heroes again.
Probably Legolas & Gimli and 2 rohan heroes. (Erkenbrand & Theoden?)
Then indeed some ent allies: leaflock & quickbeam.
Maybe a Shadowfax or Snowmane attatchment.
As for the quests:
1. Hunt the uruk - Fangorn - Edoras.
2. Road to hornburg & outer wall - helm's deep (siege) - the rohirrim enter the fray outside (battle)
3. Entmoot - entmarch - battle at Isengard.

A lot of it will come down to how they want to represent the split storyline nature of the last two novels. Have they explained at all yet on how they would approach it?
I would love to have my custom card official in the Treason.
I don't have art on it, so I'll describe it.(because we also know that we'll get Shadowfax in the next DE of Angmar Awakened)
A Clear Whistle
Event, Neutral
Cost 0
Play only if you control Gandalf.
Search your deck for Shadowfax.
I just love the moment they move out of Fangorn and Gandalf whistles Shadowfax. In the books it is described really cool and in the movies they also did a nice job.
Edited by gandalfDKI completely forgot Shadowfax.... that card should be... AWESOME!

That's what stumps me with this choice for a fellowship hero. FotR has a clearly linear storyline and lends well to one fellowship hero (for that matter the second book of TT is the same way). But, the first book of TT has two distinct narratives (hobbits and hunters) with even more going on in the background (Eomer's story, the Battle at the Fords of Isen, the Ent's attack on Isengard, etc). I'm just really curious how this will all be handled in the game.

How about no need to handle everything? Just the big lines for the sag box.
They could just do what they did with the black riders now: add quests through gencon & fellowship events.

So you are thinking that having The Ents Attack Isengard fulfill a role like The Old Forest did at Gen Con?

That's an awesome idea!
Caleb, if you're reading this, The Ents Attack Isengard would be the perfect GenCon quest!
Hey guys,
we already know the answer to most of these questions. The back of the Treason of Saruman Box was shown at Gen-Con.

It says we're going to hunt Uruk-hai, fight Helm's Deep, and March with the Ents against Isengard! There's your three quests.
So excited!

So then are we maybe going to get another Merry/or Pippin? I know we already have 2 pippins but it'd be neat to see more.
