Crack shot, +2 damage on when you do Crits or +2 on the critical injury chart

By Dark Bunny Lord, in Only War

So playing only war and I hit an Ork for 1 damage over his wounds meaning I deal Crit damage. I have crack shot and the Ork has True Grit. So question does crack shot make my crit result 2 higher or does it merely count as +2 damage that is only applied when you hit and thus canceled by True Grit.

I was under the assumption that since it says +2 crit damage result that it meant the former but my GM thinks the latter, so we went with it and decided to research for an answer after to keep things moving.

Crack Shot increases Critical Damage, it does not increase the level of Critical Effects. Note the wording.

So your GM is right. It's all just modifiers to the final calculation: (1+2)/2

The wording is important, as Crack Shot does nothing for determining the Critical Effects caused by Righteous Fury.

Anyways if it is indeed as you say then wow what a garbage talent, moderately high cost for very situational low damage buff is not impressive considering other talents that can raise damage more and in all situations instead of just when dealing Crits.

Note I wasn't talking about righteous fury, I was speaking of doing enough damage to exceed the targets wounds and thus deal critical damage which was then reduced by True Grit.

I understand. The reference to Righteous Fury was just to demonstrate the difference between Critical Damage, and Critical Effects, as the rules here are pretty explicit on the matter.

As to the "garbage talent", it's certainly not as good as Mighty Shot, but then that is a Tier 3 Talent and should be "better".

But unless you're fighting creatures with True Grit, then this means that each shot will have a Critical Effect 2 levels higher than it would otherwise have. That makes the difference between an inconsequential hit and a more severe one, or even between life and death.

But yeah, it's not great. If you have the aptitudes (and do a lot of shooting), pick it up. If not... well.

Street fighting + Crippling strike + Unarmed master is good though - you hit hard with bare hands, and when you put someone below 0 wounds they usually don't survive due to stacking bonuses to criticals.
