300+ Furball

By 0Dark, in X-Wing

Had a day off work and decided to have a massive (non-epic) battle with all my ships, as listed in my signature.

All ships were at the lowest cost, generic pilots, apart from 2 Avenger Squadron Interceptors, as I only have 2 Alpha Squadron pilots. The Ys and HWKs also had Ion Turrets to make up some of the points difference.

The total points cost was 328 for the Rebels, including the Ion Turrets, and 343 for the Imperials.

The Rebels held back the Xs and Ys as reinforcements, with the Imperials holding back 2 Interceptors and both Firesprays.

In a very fun, casual, friendly match, chaos ensued for a coup,e of turns with both sides manoeuvring around asteroids and taking opportunity shots at each other. The advantage ebbed and flowed between both sides, reinforcements arrived and ..... Then it was all over after nearly 6 hours play.

Victory was narrowly won by the Rebels, with only 2 shield less Xs gunning down the last Firespray.

The Phantom proved to be great fun, darting around the board cloaking, decloaking, unleashing 5 attacks at range 1. The Headhunters deserve mention for their surprising resillience. The E Wing and the Defender died too quickly to really shine and the Lambda cruised around the board eliminating Bs and As.

Massive fun was had by both sides and a re-match is hopefully not too far away.

Funniest moment - The Defender faceplanting on an asteroid and self-destructing (yes, I was playing the Imperials!!).

Most awesome moment - The Phantom decloaking at range 1 behind an unsuspecting Y and unleashing 5 criticals. Bye bye Y.

Was that played on a standard 3x3 board? In my experience 200 pts per side is about the maximum you can field on a standard table before it starts getting too crowded though it obviously depends on how many ships are involved as well.

Seems like it would have been a very even match if the rebels didn't have a 15 point advantage to give them the narrow win.

It was a 15 point DISadvantage for the rebels

328 Rebels v 343 Imperial

So 16 rebel ships vs 16 imperials? Sounded fun!

Yes, it was a 3x3 board, with each side starting with 10-12 ships. As I stated in my OP, chaos ensued for a couple of turns, but I and my friend were able to keep track of everything fairly well. Not having upgrades and other factors to remember helped in the early turns.

Named pilots and upgrades (if only to even out the points) may well be involved in the re- match.

Focus-firing is what turned the tide for the Rebels, once my friend realised that was what I was doing with my pair of Firesprays and changed his tactics.

Those last 2 Xs saw off the Phantom and 1 of the Firesprays with no shields, but a grim determination to defend freedom for the Galaxy.

So .........

If we run a 375 point list each, what does the forum recommend as a 'mega list' for both sides?

I have at least 1 of every pilot and upgrade ( up to wave 4). Our house rules state that a copy of the card must be physically owned, but multiples can be proxies.
