So this past weekend I had a session I GM'ed. The Players were on a Junkyard planet (Raxus Prime) and they were out of their element. They had just set up a trap for a Bounty target they were after and were waiting for them to pick up on it. The Players decided to wait for the response back at their ship... Only to find their ship was stolen.
This is a fairly typical thing to happen. What was not typical is how utterly devastated one Player was. I got the total "Oh Crap!", head down on the table with both hands over the head utter defeated look.
It took about 2-3 minutes before the Player talked again after at least one attempt to form a thought that failed to materialize.
As a GM I couldn't help but Laugh a bit and almost yell out in triumph of the situation. As a friend of the Player I felt bad enough to break out of my GM persona and make sure he was okay.
I am not in any way asking if taking their ship was wrong... it wasn't I am more posting this for a "this is reactions you can get when you GM with good Role Players" kind of thing.
Any of you had epic reactions to a story element? This is not asking for good story ideas. I mean moments in GM'ing when you have a reaction that is so perfect people will remember it for a long time just because of how good the reaction to the situation was.
Story Related notes:
- The reason I had their ship stolen was several times I had items/personnel enter and leave their ship with smuggled good or just to hang out. They never upped their security or even thought of doing that.
- While they had attempted to scan for remnants of the smuggling in the past (left over residue/etc) they failed in their efforts to find anything 2 or 3 times so they gave up ever caring outwardly.
- Also of interest is that they all had an idea something weird was going on but they did not react to it.
- In an effort to teach them a lesson about Physical Security, they had their ship taken.
Additionally while they are going to get a new ship (and this is mainly for their creative idea about how to get one that I am allowing a cheaper method than I planned) they still want their old ship because it has items related to personal missions they were on, left on the ship.
