Halloween Themed Adventure Help

By AdmiralAckbar08, in Game Masters

I was looking to run a fun spooky adventure for my group for the month of October. We are almost done with our current adventure so it works perfectly. The only thing I'm having trouble with is coming up with something that is scary in the Star Wars universe. Obviously there is potential with the Blackwing virus but I'm not sure my group would be that interested in it. One of the PC's is a very spiritualistic Gand so I was thinking of maybe doing something with that. Otherwise I'm having trouble with ideas. Any thoughts would be really helpful.

I was planning on running the Star Wars version of Event Horizon for this year's Halloween game for my campaign.

If you want to do sorta-haunted ship, that movie is a good starting point.

Force ghosts!

Obi wan: "luuuuuuuuuuuuke!!"

Luke: "Aaah!"

Obi wan: "luke you will go to the Dagobah systhem!"

Luke: "Dammit Ben! you sacred me half to death!"

Obi wan, "Oh i'm sorry Luke, but this is exactly why you must train under Yoda!"

Okay force ghosts aren't scary. - But how about Spirits of the Sith?

The characters ship crash lands on a world covered in forrests. During the dark of night they are being stalked by unseen creatures that stay hidden in the shadows but ambush them with traps or shoot spears and arrows at them. Dammit! Ewoks aren't scary either...

The characters come across a rebel outpost, completly abandoned. The only remaining occupant is a droid that keeps repeating the same message over and over. "They shouldn't have let it in! I told them! It killed them all!"

(turns out the droid is an insane assassin droid who wiped out the entire rebel outpost by himself)

The Empire or the hutts have sent a bounty hunter after the characters. One day they lure him into an ambush and kill him.

But the next day he is back on their trail...

On a swampy backwater planet an insane scientist is using parts from various aliens to stitch together the ultimate life form.

Oh look, some of the players are just what he needs to complete his masterwork!

Zombie storm troopers! 'nuff said.

Zombie Jawas! Utini!!!

I love the idea of a Halloween game! I'm planning on running quite a heavily modified version of the D6 adventure Domain of Evil, where the players crash in a swamp and end up encountering ghosts, having their ship vanish and finally enter an old creepy looking tree to find the villain.

I'm going to swap out the parts that don't fit our story and tweak it to be a bit more suited to what my group likes, but the basic idea is the same :)

Luke: "I see dead jedi!"

Yoda: "Luminous beings are we. Not this crude matter!"

Luke "I don't believe in force ghosts!"

Yoda: "That is why you fail!"

Luke "well.. I'm not afraid!"

Yoda" You will be, you will be..."

A few years back, I threw a 'deserted' Imperial cruiser overrun by 'zombie' Ewoks at my group. Nasty little critters. You still can't say 'Z-wok' around some of the players without them cringing.

Have you watched the second season of clone wars the one with Barris and Ahsoka leaving Geonosis and those eggs that when they hatch they "infest" someone in that case clones and Barris?

Might be worth a look!

I've actually been meaning to watch that movie. I'll definitely check it out thanks!

Yeah I love the Clone Wars I actually completely forgot about that episode. That could work well because right now they are finishing up some dealings on Geonosis. Wouldn't be difficult to keep them there a little longer

I'm not familiar with that one but I do like the idea of using something else as a framework for this

Yeah I was tossing around some Sith occult stuff in my head. I love the droid idea and the bounty hunter is cool even outside of a spooky theme. Actually I like all of these ideas. Zombie Jawas that scavenge parts...and flesh!!!

I am going with the Feral/Zombie Ewoks too, a mixture of the films 'Aliens' and 'Apocalypse Now'.

The players are hired to find out what has happened to a spy who infiltrated an Imperial base on the forest moon of Endor. They are given storm trooper outfits and an imperial shuttle to land at the base. They find it ransacked and most of the Imperial staff dead, the spy who is now an officer has escaped into the forest with his remaining storm troopers in a bid for survival.

Bad guys include crazed imperial staff who want to escape the horror, hordes of feral cannibalistic Ewoks, and the results Imperial experiments on the local wild life.

Last year I did zombie droids. No, really, hear me out!

PC's are hunting down a long-lost Separatist treasure ship (hey, I thought of this before Beyond the Rim came out!) are track it to this little-known volcanic world called Mustafar (I think you can see where I'm going with this).

They finally locate the ship buried near an old ruined mining platform. Drifting volcanic ash, encroaching lava flows, the works. In the command console they find the bodies of a dozen or more different beings, all hacked up and mummified by the hot dry climate. Well the Force-Sensitive's got the heebie-jeebies, everyone else keeps hearing noises just out of sight, and the droid gets jumped by something he never gets a good look at, rebooting later and discovering someone's torn out some of his nonessential circuitry.

Long story short, zombie droids. The ship containts the remains of Gizor Delso's battle droid project from Battlefront II, buried near the site of Anakin's fall. The prototype droids have gone into self-preservation mode and are cannibalizing any available electronics to remain functional. A Magnaguard is the only one who hasn't been corrupted, and is guarding a bunch of old Separatist schematics in the hulk of the ship, including those for a large spherical battle station...

The PCs managed to clear out the battle droids with the help of some terrified mouse droids that had been hiding from the scavengers. They tried to negotiate with the Magnaguard, and would've succeeded, but one player got a little too curious about the schematics. Boss fight ensues; they kill him but he destroys the computers first. They hightail it as the lava flows and rival treasure hunters close in.

I see the Star Wars universe as something I don't need to stick strictly to canon with, especially with players who aren't die hard fans of the books (and if they were, I'd remind them that Disney has done away with the EU anyway, so nyaaah!).

My thoughts on some halloween adventures:

- They have to salvage a derelict ship floating in space and determine why it's dead in the water and what happened to the crew. Talk about how pitch black it is, be very descriptive on the spooky environment, etc. Then find out the crew was infected with some virus or something that either turned them into zombies... or half-animal hybrids (werewolves)... or anything ghoulish and scary (or even a combination of these things). They have to fight for their lives, avoid getting bitten, and escape with their macguffin treasure/info.

- The Dark Side is an evil presence and who's to say there isn't evil manifestations of it. We've heard about Sith Lord ghosts/essences. Maybe they need to explore an ancient, decrepit manor that they find out is possessed/cursed with a Dark Side presence. Maybe the manor has a hidden underground chamber where sacrifices were made, or maybe the Sith Lord was working on preserving his body and cheat death and the only way to destroy it is to plunge something into the body's heart.

- Two words: Giant spiders.

Anyway those are things I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck with your adventure!

I think I'm going to make some modifications to Lost Knowledge (the adventure from the Force and Destiny beta) and use that. Heck, it's got a ghost in it already. And a creepy old hermit. And weird monsters.

I suggest looking at Call of Cthulhu/Trail of Cthulhu scenarios. Some of them are quite easy to translate into Star Wars. Currently I'm running one - The Jungle God from "Shadows over Filmland" (Trail of Cthulhu). And there are tons of scenarios for these two systems.

Well I'm doing an Alien tribute set on a decaying Separatist ship.

I'm also playing the Force / Jedi straight. By which I mean there isn't all the movie overlay of heroes and viewer omnipotence. My players are getting the In Universe view of things. Specifically when the fourteen year old son of a crime boss nemesis I'm setting up for them says in a slightly flat voice "sometimes I see things before they happen", it's going to be creepy . Or if I go another route: "sometimes I can make people do what I want, just by thinking about it". Either way, a young Force Sensitive is actually going to be pretty freaky to them. Remember that the Jedi are gone in this setting. This kid would once have been found by the Jedi, maybe taken and trained up. But instead he's just growing up without guidance as the son of this organized crime boss. Imagine a hybrid of Penguin from the Gotham TV series and Haley Joel Osment from the Sixth Sense. Oh sure, by Jedi standards he's untrained and has one Force Point. But precognitive, mentally manipulating fourteen year old heirs to a planet-wide criminal kingdom... I'm going to play this as disturbing as I can. :D

Edited because my original post was way too vague, to avoid spoilers, on my upcoming Halloween adventure to actually be helpful. Regardless, lots of great ideas on this thread! I like your idea in particular, knasserII, as I'm a huge fan of the Alien series.

In case it's useful, the thread for this adventure idea is here: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/123412-magnaguard/

I'm going to use a magnaguard. So it will be sort of Alien meets Terminator, I guess. Though in terms of feel, I'm definitely aiming for the Alien vibe.

A couple quick ideas/set up....

"All Alone in the Night"

The PCs arrive (any number of possible plots get them to this point) at a small settlement and are unable to leave (any number of plot devices can cause this). Exploring the town, they discover the entire population has been massacred. Looks like something tore through them with sharp weapons - analog swords or knives or such. Bodies are found all over, many of them appear to have been hiding in closets and crawlspaces and whatnot to no avail. A lot of them behind locked doors. At some of the grisly scenes can be found evidence of blaster fire, but it looks like the victims were shooting at nothing. No ships are present. Speeder bikes, and other vehicles, and riding animals have also been rent into uselessness. There is no power. It looks like the only living beings in town are small to medium size pets, which have been subsisting on the bodies.

The local marshal and a couple others are slain in a locked up jail cell. At the town hall, a dozen or more people locked themselves inside, but are all dead. The building with the local HoloNet relay has the only survivor in town holed up inside. He's in the main room along with what looks like every portable source of light this little town has. He's insane. He rambles on about the darkness and night. His blaster pistol is empty but he still holds it like it's going to save his life. With no power in the settlement, the HoloNet relay is down.

(I ran that one in a Deadlands game. The PCs ended up burning down the town to kill the night haunt, a sort of specter with razor sharp claws that only becomes corporeal in the darkness.)

"Behind Enemy Lines"

The PCs arrive at a settlement (again any number of possible plots get them here). The locals tell tall tales of ghosts at an abandoned Separatist base up on Phantom Hill, a little bit outside of town. Sometimes eerie lights can be seen out there at night. Lately, people have been disappearing at night. Most notably missing are a local and well-respected trader, the local marshal, and the town's doctor - who disappeared just a few nights ago. The townsfolk have taken to staying in once dusk hits, and staying in groups. We're sure the PCs will want to investigate, right?

In the abandoned fort, the PCs will find an old Seppie general who was a scientist and engineer during the Clone Wars. Now, he's a bit of a mad scientist. He has two projects going on with one mission goal in mind. He is combining people with droids, making not-so-stable cybernetic soldiers of horrific visage. He is also creating a "wormhole" gateway that will open up directly to hyperspace once the bugs are ironed out. He thinks evil comes from hyperspace and that he will send his army through the gate to combat it. It's probably not a wise idea to let him complete this gate...

I recently ran what I called "The Rocky Horror Space Opera." It was a mashup of various spooky and Halloween films. In Media Res opening with their ship stuck in a swamp on planet Regenshirm. (Regenshirm is German for "Umbrella") They had gone there on a lead the archaeologist found regarding an Anzat named "Strahd" who was exiled from his homeworld.

They had at least managed to put the ship down near the large building they had seen on scanners before making the landing. They waited out the storm and headed out. Thus began the monster-fest. Their ship had picked up mynocks, but that wasn't the real threat. There was a dainoga in the water that attacked them. Then, on their way to the "castle", which was actually a large cloning laboratory, they were attacked by a spider like droid and a large floating box (Scout Collector and Scout Surveyor from Enter the Unknown p. 57) These had come from the lab to collect any lifeforms in the area.

At the castle itself, they encountered some "helpful" droids (with resemblances to RifRaff and Magenta) who welcomed them in and offered them a place on their operating table, or explained the goings on of "the Master" who continued trying to find suitable cloning candidates that met his "tastes". Resisting the procedure of laying on the table, they were given 2 other options. Climb the tower in the dark with no turbolifts, or descend to the lower level and activate the power, then come up. The Master would gladly grant them an audience. There were rumbles and roars below the basement level, a Rancor, and they were assured that it would not be a problem so long as they didn't accidentally trigger any of the trap doors in the building. (this never actually came into play, but was fun flavor. Of course, if the players got careless,....

The rest was getting through chambers of escaped clones of various races. Then getting to the main chamber and facing off against an Anzat mad-scientist and his strange entourage. The "Columbia" character was a Twi'lek dancer in the entourage, and ended up taking on a different mash-up personality when Strahd fell, becoming distraught and yelling "PUDDIN'" before rushing to his side.

Defeating the Anzat, they got access to his ship, which was badly damaged,it's hyperdrive completely shot out to ensure his exile, but it was in good enough shape to pull the PCs ship out of the mud.

I toned it down quite a bit from my original plan, due to having only 2 players, neither of which were major combat types. Both players say they enjoyed it, it was more about the interaction with the environment and the 'neutral' characters. I like to think it was true they were into it. One even role-played a very well placed "I have a bad feeling about this."
