Worlds is now just a month away. Everyone going should hopefully have heard by now that Wave 5 will not be legal. Too bad, as I so wanted to see what the world's best could come up using the YT-2400 Outrider with its turreted HLC and the VT-49 Decimator with the first imperial turret. With the official release of Rebel Aces, we still could have some differences from the recent National Championships though. The question is - will any of the Rebel Aces cards make a vast difference in the meta or are we still looking at the mostly rock, paper, scissors of Fat Falcon, Phantom, and Swarm? I would not be surprised to see 50-60% of all squads at Worlds fall into these 3 general categories. But what will the rest of mix be? Are there any other squad types that can currently compete with the big 3?
4 ship rebel builds have never really gone away. Biggs Walks the Dog won it all last year - is it still effective now?. Does the recent meta shift to smaller squads with higher PS mean a 3 Aces (not necessarily Jake, Gemmer, Keyan, or Nera) rebel build can be competitive? With Chardaan Refit lowering the cost of A-Wings and 12 point Z95s available should a 5-6 rebel list be looked at?
And what can we expect from the imperials, which really don't get much new from the Rebel Aces release? Can mini-swarms with 1 heavy hitter and 3-4 TIEs work? Can 3 bounty hunters or 2 Firesprays (not necessarily just the PS3 version) and another ship or two be a dominant list type again.
