These are a few of my odd ball characters I made recently to test out the new character generation system in second edition and to test out none standard builds. Trying something different not the recommended ones at the bottom of each path.

Name: Zale Witchborn 3625

World: Voidborn

Background: Adeptus Astra Telepathica

Role: Chirurgeon

Concept: Born on the Black Ship "Restraint of Lamenting," the 3625th child born of a witch during its passage through the void. Zale lived in the bleak conditions of the prison holds until his teens, when he was deemed untouched by the warp and retasked as a Voidsmen. Still living with the stigmata of his birth, Zale believed in that only through a healthy strong body along with a iron will he could avoid the same fate of the witch and their damnation. In this he took on any menial or back braking work on ship to harden his fortitude and resolve. He also dabbled in growth hormones, alchemical enhancements, and high gravity workout training. In only a few years time he had become a literal fortress of muscle and discipline. His superiors took notice and put him to work where these traits could best be used on board the ship, that being witch holds. Once again he found himself back in those dark oubliettes of the damned, but this time as a guard rather then the imprisoned. With his mind and body honed, he excelled at preforming his duties. He also took advantage of his past knowledge from living in the holds and understanding the motives of the witch. Zale found he could interact with the prisoners easier and with more trust. Again the Adepts took notice and decided to give him training in the arts of healing, for they need live prisoners to fuel the Imperial machine. Years past, and Zale delivered punishment or mercy in those benighted halls until one day in a interrogation of new a witch brought to the Black Ship by a member of the Inquisition. Zale's skills were deemed worthy of noticed at that time and was soon seconded to the Inquisition for redeployment as an operative.

Name: Subject 12

World: Shrine World

Background: Adeptus Mechanicus

Role: Mystic

Elite Advance : Psyker

Concept: Subject 12 was a part of an Adeptus Mechanicus project which focused on harnessing the energy of the warp as an alternate power source. This project was heretical and held in secret by a splinter cell of Electro-Priests. Subject 12 was one of their few successes they had delving into this dark art. Born to a bloodline of an Imperial Saint, he was raised and groomed from birth to rise high into the ranks of the most Holy Adeptus Ministorum. Though this was not to be his fate in the end. He was kidnapped from his shrine world by the Heretical Electro-Priests and taken to their hidden techno labs. They choose him as a subject under a wild hypothesis that the more pure and powerful the bloodline, the more power could be tapped from the warp. To their amazement this actually worked. They then wanted to test this again with a larger group of test subjects to prove that their process worked and was repeatable, rather then one random anomaly. This is the factor that finally lead to the brutal demise of these Hereteks. A Inquisition Kill Team tracked down the group after kidnapping many prominent and influential Imperial citizens to continue their experiments. In the aftermath, Subject 12 was found and handed over to the Inquisitor directing the raid. Being a pragmatic and a little bit of a Radical, he choose to use Subject 12's abilities to boost his own forces potential. Now Subject 12, with a personality little better then a Servitor, spouts gospel prayers while blasting the Inquisitions enemies with powerful warp energy .

And the engineer from TF2 together.

Basically, warrior who can hold his own, can repair any weapon or device, or turn anything into a weapon (with the proper incantations to the Machine God, of course), but is childlike, and completely and irrevocably crazy(by our standards, anyways). Untouchable Chirurgeon. He's always got his hands on people trying to help them. They don't like it. Doesn't help he looks so weird, being born on a ship and all.

I guess a lot of my character concepts have ended up pretty standard. Some of them I've used one set of generation rolls (stats, etc) for rules and other sets (appearance, superstitions, mementos, etc.) for fluff (obviously keeping the two very separate). Like my Forge World Mechanicus Seeker. She uses the Voidborn tables for fluffy elements but uses Forge World for her formal Home World because of the nature of her upbringing on the Space Hulk.

"Cookie-cutter" characters can be pretty cool if you flesh out their story well. My only other post on this board so far is about Papa Nix, a Highborn/Ministorum/Heirophant, but people like his story.

Name: Jonah Keough

World: Feral

Background: Adeptus Ministorum

Role: Desperado

Concept: Old West, wears a khaki trench coat and wide-brimmed fedora, dual-weilds hand cannon and revolver, rarely shaves, has long ragged black hair and sun-weathered skin.

My current character, Father Jonah Keough. He's a Feral World Ministorum Desperado, represented as an Old West style gunslinger priest jonesin' to burn him some witches. Generally acts perturbed by some of the backwards practices and chivalries of the civilized peoples, and has little tolerance for indirectness. However, he knows that sometimes being crafty is the smartest way to approach a problem and isn't afraid to lie before shooting if it will get him more pragmatic results.

(How I picture him appearing. Sadly he has done nothing even remotely this badass...yet).

Anyone interested in following the adventures of this grumpy old geezer and his yuppie Arbites companion can check out the campaign stream on my youtube channel. Sadly only one episode so far, but more should be up as of Thanksgiving.
