WHY?

@Hobojebus Why couldn't they? IT's their game (the board game)! So why not the electronic version?

FFG doesn't have the licence from Lucasarts (lucasfilms, or whar ever its called), to produce electronic media. Its the reason why they can't put out a PDF version of the roleplaying games book either (except for the free content they release).

This pretty much, they can do books and board games but the licence to do video games lies with EA who are currently making battlefront.

I'd love an easy to use online version of x-wing everyone could use without alot of expertise, but EA is EA and they'd try to add micro payments or something else like you can only play three games a week unless you pay a certain amount.

@Hobojebus that's probably true...

I guess this topic is kinda useless now...

Pretty much. There's never going to be an official FFG digital version, unless something major happens and Lucas/Disney changes what they define as Digital Content in relation to their licences with FFG & EA.

The only way you're ever going to be able to play X-wing online is with Vassal. It's really not that hard to use, and it gets easier with every update. I've been helping out on the recent version (just on the graphics end for the S&V ships mostly) and what I'm seeing so far from the other contributors looks like it will help make it much easier for new players to jump in. Also, there's only one bug in the software that I know of, it's annoying, but there's an easy work around.
