R7 Astromech

By Slade, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello. New player here trying to build a fun rebel list.

I'm wondering on the R7 Astromech. Suppose all the requirements I'm still not fully clear on the sequence for attack and defend decissions.

I'm currently understanding that if the attacher has rolled I can use R7 to force him to reroll (some/all). Once the attacker has rerolled he can then decide to use a focus token.

What i'm trying to get clear in my head is that once the attacker has announced the use of its focus token the defender cannot backtrack to say that he will be using the R7 ability. The R7 ability kicks in and has to be used before the attacker decides whether to use a focus token or not.

A similar question I have for Sensor Jammer. My understanding is that if the defender changes a hit to a focus roll the attacker can still use its focus token to change that focus roll to a hit again.

Everything you write is correct.

Rulebook p. 11 tells us the defender modifies attack dice before the attacker. That means the attacker has to wait a moment after rolling dice so the defender has a chance to declare his intention.

After the R7 reroll of only some dice the attacker may use his own TL to reroll the other dice.

Sensor jammer forces the attacker to choose: Spend focus on this attack or save it for another use but get one less hit result. Attacking a sensor jammer without having focus is not a very good idea.

Not sure I understand the comment of rerolling the other dice, not the ones that were rolled due to R7. Can you elaborate a bid more? Didn't spot anything in the rules myself. Thx.

Dice may only be rerolled once. So if you choose to make the attacker reroll some dice, and said attacker has a TL, the dice that he previously rerolled could not be rolled again by spending his TL.

The R7 allows you to choose any or all of the attacker's dice to reroll. If he rolls a blank and a couple of crits, you may use R7 to get him to reroll just the crits. If he has a target lock, he can still use it, but only on the die he hasn't rerolled, namely the blank.

Dvor's comment on making sure the attacker waits after his initial roll is a really good point. If you have an upgrade that could affect his attack dice, make sure he's aware of it, so that he does pause to give you the opportunity to use it, instead of quickly rushing through and denying you it's use.

The same goes for any upgrade that affects the defence dice. The defender must be aware of any upgrade that the attacker has that might modify his dice before he can do so himself.

R7 works great with Tarn as Tarn picks up the target lock the moment he is attacked before any dice rolls.

Downside is that R7 only works once per round, so even if you have Tarn or some how got a target lock on another attacker after using R7 you cannot use him again the same round.
