Blasters/lasers in starwars are not really lasers. They aren't made of beams of weightless light. They are superheated gas projected at extreme speeds. So yeah, they have recoil.

I agree. When I use the air wand hooked up to our compressor at work to blow the dust out of the radiator of the machine I operate, it recoils with some pretty good force. Why wouldn't super heated gas being launched from the barrel of a gun create kick back as well?

I'm afraid not. It's just there because the reactor is too big for the ISD's frame.
That's a ludicrous design flaw as it makes for a pretty obvious vulnerability and juicy target for attacking ships. Is that a canon requirement for Imperials, all of their ships have to have ludicrous design vulnerabilities?

A massive vent you can shoot a torpedo down and destroy a space station the side of a moon is a "large" flaw as well

Like shields generators on the outside with perfect visibility for attackers, or terrain vehicles with unestable and thin legs.

It would have been over dramatic, with constant choral music, constant lightsaber battles and no fun at all? Besides, why do you blame Disney for that? Clone Wars was pretty much the same thing Rebels is.

Those trailers are cool, but also super expensive and time consuming to make. Wouldn't really work for a tv show.

Also, while those TOR fmv's are cool, the visual style of the series is a continuation of the Clone Wars style, so they can reuse environments, etc. Plus, that level of 3D detail takes forever to make by comparison, and by keeping the CW style they can crank stuff out at a faster rate.

Ezra still looks like a goat, though. I wish to hell they'd fix that.

If the Ghost wasn't in hover mode in this picture then yes, everyone would have been blown off.

If I remember correctly the turbolasers did the same thing in the original trilogy.

If you want to get technical, at the speed that light travels, should we even be able to follow the bursts.

I'm surprised no one has posted the Tie Advanced Prototype (v1) yet. I'd love to see this as a miniature with Inquisitor and Baron Rudor pilot cards.

If these blasters need to recoil, what about recoil on a Tie fighter craft?

Recoil on energy weapons bothers me in that recoil is a way of dealing with the energy of an explosion as it tries to push the mass of an object from a standstill up to speed. Done improperly and your breach will explode!

Blasters, or other guns that use plasma, are accelerating a very small amount of mass up to a very high speed. Plasma is a state of matter with lots of charged electrons and protons, the higher the amount of energy you put into plasma, the more of these positive and negative particles get added. The thing is, electrons and protons have next to no mass. The need for recoil is redundant, and in an energy based weapon, a wasteful use of the discharged energy as the mass is not plugging the barrel, therefore no need to control the explosion to prevent the breach from blowing up.

Because plasma responds very well to magnetism, it should be more like a GAUSS gun in operation, with a magnetic field being the propellant.

The barrel slides into a locking position immediately prior to firing in order to allow energy from the ships main power generator to create a mag field inside the barrel. This allows for the on location storing of Tibanna gas near the point of firing, and the cannon will only drain energy from the reactor upon firing.

As the barrel slides back into position, a piston chamber is rotated allowing a small amount of gas to enter the barrel. At the same time, locking of the barrel into the fully retracted position connects the barrel to reactor, energizing the barrels to create the magnetic field that fires the now magnetically encapsulated plasma discharge out of the barrel.
