OT: Did you enjoy Star Wars Rebels Episode 1?

By any2cards, in X-Wing

The Gozanti Cruiser looks pretty good.

Yeah, and apparently they thought so too because it was prominently displayed. Often.

They've already ordered a second season so apparently enough people enjoyed it, including myself. I went in looking to be entertained. I didn't have to pay extra for it. So despite some flaws *I* feel it might have, it's good for what it is. Star Wars themed entertainment.

It doesn't mean people liked it just that alot watched it which was predictable, whether those numbers will hold steady will decide if there's a third season.

I think it's a good idea to have something like the Gozanti be the main face of the Empire for this show. It works in the same way that the Velociraptors did in Jurassic Park.

In JP, while the Tyrannosaurus (i.e. Imperial Star Destroyer) was (and still is!) awesome, it was too big, it was too easy to hide from. The Raptor (i.e. Gozanti Cruiser), on the other hand, was scarier because it was roughly the same size as the good guys, and could easily get into the same places.

The citric and over all impression I've seen of it so far has been very favorable. So I full expect it to last for some time. Especially on the Disney channel, which doesn't end many shows and most likely has fairly low overhead.

It's almost as if it was a show about Star Wa... Wait a minute...

Yeah, anyone who has an issue with black and white, good and evil being clear cut can't really be much of a fan of the OT, which was about as black and white as you could get.

Rebels very much captures the feel and tone of the OT, and if you really have issue with that tone, I just don't see how you could like the OT.

I found it interesting, and for the most part enjoyable.

I do, however, find it hard to believe that you have an ISD flying in atmosphere, about 500-1000 feet off of the ground.

Episode 2. They are landed on the ground, so it doesn't sound unlikely on star wars universe. How do they lift something with that mass ? No ******* clue.

That's an Acclamator Assault Ship: it's much smaller and designed for atmospheric landing, hence the legs.

I liked it, it wasn't amazing but I was entertaining. I know it was targeted toward a younger audience, however my kids loved, and bringing young people to the Star Wars universe is always a good thing. I liked it as an adult (well, overgrown man-child anyway) , and I do like that it is the first 'canon' Star Wars stuff we are seeing now save for the book leading up this this series.

I like the era as well, one of which we really have not see a lot about. I do wish the Empire was not portrayed as so 'Catoonishly' evil, kicking over apple carts and using lines like 'who's gonna stop us?' That was a bit much for me, but that is where the 'targeted toward a younger audience side of the argument comes in.

To Forgotten above me ^, at first I thought the slingshot was dumb. But you know what? It has some serious kick. I got over it, perhaps you will too? I imagine if we see a season 3 out of this Ezra will be wielding a blaster by then at the latest, he will be getting older as the show progresses, much as Ashoka did.

I rather hope by season 3, Ezra has constructed his own lightsaber.

Well, it looks as if both of you will get what you want because, according to Wookieepedia and The Visual Guide for the show, Ezra's Lightsaber will be a Lightsaber/Blaster hybrid, much like Zeb's Bo-rifle being a Electrostaff/Blaster hybrid.

I hope FFG will be watching so we can do the same in the RPGs.

A lot of stormtroopers got shot in the face, for a Disney cartoon.

I'm in for this one, for sure.

Save some Ellipses for the rest of us! I needs them too...

I prefer triangles.

i always wanted a lightsaber bayonet on the end of a blaster rifle (or pistol)

The voice acting was pretty bad and the ease with which the main characters did everything was a bit tedious but il give it a try. If for no other reason that im starved for space combat. It shows promise however even if i dont like the Ghost .

It felt like the some of our campaigns using the old WEG Star Wars game. Right at the beginning of a campaign where the mod is trying to get everybody on the same page but there is that one player who is messing with everyone. So i appreciate the nostalgia factor

Noteworthy, it sounds like there was a little complaining about the Gozanti being displayed so often here. But you know, that's a very very good thing for them to do. Everyone knows the Star Destroyer, and we'll be seeing it TONS... But The Empire has a massive fleet. A varied fleet.

And to finally see that variance for once, refitted run of the mill ships updated to Imperial standards, the ultimate economic decision, something The Empire would do for sure. And I love that. I love that so much.

I love that it can carry a wing of fighters and add its own firepower, that it can carry a platoon of Stormtroopers. That it can carry even AT-DPs from orbit to atmosphere. This thing?

It's the penultimate Picket Craft of The Empire. The fast response craft. The one that gets sent out before any other ship in The Empire, thus far. You know what that means for its crew and pilots? These are the guys that have to be picked- the guys that have the balls to be first responders.

And I love that. I adore that The Empire is shown to have these sorts of things. That while they always approach a situation with terminating a threat with extreme prejudice in mind, that they do not waste resources in doing so.

And that's why I very much like how The Empire feels in Rebels. At least, when you forget that in episode three a stormtrooper literally shot at a wall.

I'm convinced they can't see a thing in those helmets.

But aside from that, really, it's nice to see The Empire get fleshed out. If EaW modders aren't going nuts about the Gozanti, then I am supremely disappointed.

Also holy crap those AT-DPs have some serious firepower! AT-STs ain't got nothin' on that main gun.

Very much liked, the hairless woodie joke was good. I do get Aladdin flashbacks though, the kid and his big nose are dead ringers, heck he got called "Street Rat" at least twice in the pilot.

I feel like the only one who isn't at all reminded of Aladdin.

Stuff about the Gozanti

Also worth noting that by creating a smaller ship to be the common threat, it can make the appearance of a Star Destroyer much more intimidating.

I counted at least 10 Stormtroopers who would be, by all accounts of either point blank blaster shots or explosions of some kind, pushing up daisies. And that was just by the time Our Noble Heroes escaped from the planet and made the first jump to hyperspace.

YES. That's when you know the sh*t has hit the fan. When a Star Destroyer appears.

Oh god imagine when a mysterious TIE fighter lands and the inquisitor just rises out of it slowly.

That will be awesome!

You must be young and easily confused ... so let me help you ...

Those weren't "...Noble Heroes..." ... they were traitorous rebel to be scum ... who all need to die ... :P

45 minutes counts as a movie since when?

Idk but they call it a movie. To me, it is just a normal length tv show episode.

As its half movie length is it half movie price?

I'm pretty sure I read an announcement a month or so ago, that it was going to debut in a sort of movie/hour long special, that would be the first two episodes combined.

Yup.. the second one is 22 minutes or so... so a 30 minute show.
