Fair enough royal, gws just not for me. Its like I'm not a fan of magic the gathering but to each there own, its not like I get mana cards sliped through the post with sinister messages
40k refugees and newbies...
That's the attitude I like to hear from people who dislike the current edition
No sarcasm intended
. . . I like 7th Ed
While i dislike 7th Ed by a lot, and i think GW broke one of the apocalipse seals with 6th and 7th, you are in your right to enjoy it. More power to you, and hope you continue to have fun with it, but not too much, so GW goes under the bus ![]()
To be honest, i think we can bash GW, while we are not insulting the customer base. Of course when we talk about stupid prices, it is because from our perspective is too expensive, not that you are stupid for paying the price, we value things differently. Other thing would be if we discussed about how the increase on prices have had an ill impact on GW's sales, support and loyalty from many players who were really passionate about the game before, and that's why they are so vocal about it.
Edited by DreadStarthe coolest thing, IMO, GW has done in the last few editions which was left out of 6th and 7th, was kill teams.
that game play was fast and fun. you didn't have ubber powerful characters no one could kill
when I think of modern or futuristic combat, I think of squad level combat, artillery should never be on the table unless it is part of the objective, fliers should never be on the table except during attack runs, why the hell are armies 38,000 years in the future still fighting wars WWII style. fire support should be called in from off board artillery or airsupport.
look at how we are fighting now, drone strikes and such. if they wanted to evolve the game, this is the way they should have done it.
again IMO.
While I agree GW has done some things I really dislike, IE Allies, I have a group of friends who all share a similar mindset. I don't think I'll ever sell off my collection. I've stuck with one army, Dark Angels, and have no plans are branching out. I'm also not buying as much stuff. I'm working on painting and assembling everything in my collection before I even consider buying any more 40K models.
Like I've said before, I'm hoping that I like future editions better. I've not written of GW entirely; that's silly I think. They're a company, and companies can change with time. They've got a great IP, and there's a good chance I'll come back and play 40k at some point in the future. I haven't sold off my models, or ritually sacrificed them to the gods in an attempt to cast a curse on GW.
I'm more or less fine with allies. As long as they can't use each others characters, transports or psychic abilities. Otherwise it's cheesetastic.
One thing my drop pod army has faced: Severin loth granting invisibility to grav centurions with Coteaz in the squad granting his anti DP rule. In small point games nothing can really beat that with a marine list. (On the other hand orks would have laughed at him).
I'd like to add that Sev gets to always pick invis.

I played Battlefleet Gothic first, then I got into 40,000. I wouldn't call myself a refugee but I was into space games such as Star Fleet battles and did try the space miniature game from Wizards of the Coast. Until X-wing there really wasn't that good of a space miniature game. So I got into X-wing after wave 3 waiting for the game to mature and see how it works. I never jump on a product as soon as it comes out (still have an Xbox 360 instead of the 1)

Amen, brother!
While we're complaining about GW, and people are complaining about the complainers, I would like to complain about the people complaining about my complaints about GW.
What follows is my opinion. If it pisses anyone off, know that I'm not stating this as fact, it's just how I feel as a player that was involved in 40k since Rogue trader, indeed, longer than many 40k players have been out of diapers.
IMHO, it's the GW apologists that are to blame for MUCH of the poor rotten state of 40k.
When they keep buying they are enabling GW to limp along like a dog that just got hit but not killed by a car made of common sense. THEY are just as guilty for ruining the game...buying into flyers, rapid fire $50 codexes, Superheavy LOW's, or the shoddy shoddy crappy rules that are 6th and 7th edition.
The state of 40k today is just horrible. The hobby in it's entirety is an abortion. 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions were truly a golden age in community gaming. There is no comparison to what's going on today.
Your 40k today is sh!t. Accept it. Arguing it is just foolish. Arguing it makes the state of the horrendous game today partially YOUR fault.
DEMAND excellence for your money. That's why we're posting on FFG's site and playing THEIR game instead of Dakka or Warseer....because 40k is not excellence. It's a transparent and shameless money grab from a floundering company with no playtesters or any designers with even a modicum of spirit.
Again....my opinion.
You know, I was wondering were this thread had gone after 7 pages.
40k is a great setting. The models are cool. The game is fun. I just can't afford it. Well I can afford it, but it's a horribly inefficient use of my hobby budget. I've had the entire GW experience - and I always felt like a cow hooked to a milking machine. I have one last army to sell, 3000 pts of Necrons, then I'll be free and clear.
To any newbs considering the switch from 40k to x-wing, consider this: I sold my CSM army for £280. Going from 0 to competitive army in x-wing cost me a grand total of £65.96 - one core set + 3 TIE Defenders. That left over £200 to spend on other goodies. Can you get a brand new competitive playable army + rules from GW for under £70?
It costs you £80 just for the rules and a codex, something in the region of £500 for an armies worth of models then you still need paints glue and modelling tools.
Even when I buy s&v I won't even be close to what one gw army would cost.
The gaming costs between 40K and xwing are hilariously different. I've got enough to play 1000 points of either imp or rebel and that's within a year. I've been collecting 40K for 20 and probably only have 4000 points of everything.
I do miss the days of buying boxes of 20 Imperial Guardsmen.
I miss the times of buying boxes with 30 space marines.
I don't remember a box of 30 marines but I do remember getting 36 orks and 30 guard for about $30. ![]()
