By Gadge, in X-Wing

Another Reading here.

Hiiiiii ( said in campest voice one can come up with )

Reading ( Red-ing for those who don't know ) Berkshire.

Once I get more time away from work I'll be looking to play more. Do you go to Eclectic on Tuesdays, or is there another group I should be looking at instead?

California in the tail end of summer no thanks, it was pretty warm when i visited my bro in march i could not live there all that sun...its not healthy.

I propose a motion that the UK government to subsidise the x-wing community moving closer together to more easily facilitate meeting up for games.

^YES^

I did go to eclectic but it was my friend, a random guy ( friendly ) and me so I haven't bothered since. We need somewhere. Doesn't seem to be the players nearby.

Depending on exactly where you are, I think there was a group in Bracknell running an Imdaar Alpha event, and I think there's also a group based in the Winnersh area. (IIRC, the latter are the group that run the Warfare event in November.)

i'm an internationalist at heart, i dont give a toss where someone comes from or what they believe in as long as they are a good person at heart... but... It's useful to have an idea who on this board is in my area for comparing prices, availability and possibly hooking up for a game. Sooo... If you live in the UK put a shout out on here so I have a rough idea who i might bump into at an event one day. I'm in Nottingham btw... I know Hobojesus and Hounds Tooth are in the UK but who else? edit; DOH, mispelt the title, that sounds *really* wrong lol!

Bristol, but grew up in west bridgford ;)

This is a cool thread. I wasn't aware that so many members were on the other side of the pond.

I do have a question that hopefully someone here can answer.

I'm on a Facebook group that deals with swapping/selling X-Wing stuff and it seems like every time someone is selling their whole collection they are based out of the UK. I don't think I've seen one person in the US selling.

Why is that? My guess would be lack of players maybe, but there seem to be a lot of tournaments out there and lots of players here. I know the place isn't that huge, so things couldn't be spread out that far.

I'm genuinely curious.

Edit: I know we're aren't as big as the US but we are big enough that its a problem. Another example: if I was to go to see one of the guys in Nottingham it would be 3 hours there and 3 back again so a big enough to be a pain.

We're a fickle bunch in Blighty!

There is a large wargaming club in Reading. I don't know if they play X wing -http://www.wargamesassociationreading.co.uk/antiquestevefsmailnet-0.html

Edit 3: by car 20 min ( police don't like people driving without their license, don't know why ;) ) by bus...... 1 hour 35 min. How does that work?

While bigger cities have independent stores there are plenty of places where GW set a shop up intentionally to force independent shops to close by not giving them the stock they needed and other dirty tricks, so if you don't have a group to play with it can be hard to get a game in.

Another aspect to keep in mind regarding distances in the UK is how you measure them. Long journeys become a lot less of an option when petrol costs many times more in the UK than in the US.

So is the answer to have a " have x- wing, will travel" thread for all us lonely wingers? ;)

An Essex boy here

Why does no one in Liverpool play x-wing except me? Four pages!!!

I should start calling it Super Beatles Football Tory Hate. Might get more people to try it.

Sheffield standing by

The group you're in is a majority UK based group so most of the players are British. There are probably regional US groups for selling/trading, or people just use Ebay.

London massive represent. Currently overseas in Asia for the moment however.
