Zhar Slumber Ability Timing Question

By jgt7771, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

So a new Gate opens, and you roll doubles. How immediate is the new card resolution?

1) If during the Arkham Encounter Phase, are you just putting the game on hold to have an out-of-phase Mythos Phase?

Upkeep - Movement - Arkham (Mythos) Encounter - Other World Encounter - Mythos

2) Can you finish the three steps of the original gate--Gate, Monster, Doom token--before resolving the new card?

a) Gate - Monster - Doom (Mythos)

b) Gate (Mythos) - Monster - Doom

3) If during the Mythos Phase, should you a) resolve the first card completely, and then resolve the next card, or b) is it kinda like embedding programming?

a) Gate - Clue - Movement - Headline (Gate - Clue - Movement - Headline)

b) Gate (Gate - Clue - Movement - Headline) - Clue - Movement - Headline

4) If (heaven help you) you happen to get more than one open Gate during a rash of doubles, can you still follow the procedure from 3) as long as necessary?

a) Mythos (Mythos) (Mythos)

b) My (My (Mythos) thos) thos

What a nightmare...

*bump*

Anybody have an answer?

I think the wording on the ability is quite clear. "If doubles are rolled, immediatly draw and resolve a mythos card". So, you would have an out-of-order mythos phase. The wording would also make it seem like you would resolve the cards as "embedded programming" but I don't personally see any sense in doing that just to be technically correct. I would resolve the mythos cards one at a time and in order.

Mythos Phase? Wouldn't a Mythos Phase trigger rumor effects and other herald effects? I would think you'd just draw the Mythos card and use the card effects, but not an entire Mythos Phase.

Sorry. That's what I meant. But "resolving a Mythos card" is just doing everything you do during the Mythos Phase, so it's like dropping a fifth phase right into the third phase. (Kinda like dropping an Upkeep Phase into Combat.) But I never intended that to activate any card or effect that springs on the "official" Mythos Phase, like any Rumor that requires a roll.

HOWEVER, a Werewolf or Lloigor or Cthonian or Colour could actually knock someone insane/unconscious in the middle of their Arkham Phase, so this timing thing could be reeeeeeally important.

For example: the Phase 5 Mythos Card opens a new gate, and its headline will eventually remove that Lloigor lurking near Monterey without moving it. But you roll doubles, and the NEW Mythos card WILL move the Lloigor, driving Monty insane. If you resolve the new card IMMEDIATELY, as in just after the new Gate rolled doubles, then Monty is brain pudding. If you resolve the new card AFTER the first card is completely resolved, no more Lloigor and Monty may exhale.

It sounds like I would play it as nested mythos cards. That is somewhat of a headache, but it can do very interesting things.
